I really don't care about the X50 as I can't routinely use the 414hp that is standard.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I went out into the garage this morning, looked at our 996 Slate Grey C4S and 996 Polar Silver cab and said to myself "I like these cars-I don't need no stinkin 997 and I'm tired of Porsche 'traditionalists' trying to convince me there's anything wrong with the headlight design!" I bought these cars because I like the way they drive and look. Furthermore, I don't give a rip if a new model is coming out or not. There will always be something "newer" and "better". Heck, 99.99% of the people in the world would probably trade any car they've ever owned (or will own) for any 996. Sometimes I just need to remind myself to be thankful for what I've already got. There, I feel better now. -------------------- John

POST 3Original post

I actually like the hated teardrop lights better than the VW ovals on the 997. I like the organic shapes of the interior better than the mid 70s vette door panels of the 997. Howerver, I would appreciate the 997's track prowess. I like the chrono option, and the idea of SPASM. I figger in two years, Porsche will have a compelling update to the 997 that would tear me from my 996. But, until then. . . .

POST 4Original post

That's something of the way I felt after buying a stunningly beautiful 01 C4 and then having Porsche bring out the C4S. Years ago after I got married if I was attracted to a beautiful woman I looked for her "nits"(spelling IS correct). She always had at least one and then I could focus on that to make her unattractive to me.

POST 5Original post

Hello guys. There's always better things coming from Porsche. So either get the 997 with all the new tech goodies or stop bitching about it because you got the 996.

POST 6Original post

Ironic that there's nothing traditional about the 997 except the oval head lights. It's still water cooled and the 997S has more electronic gizmos than the 996. It even inhereted the next generation M96 engine. Hah!

POST 7Original post

But isn't it annoying when people misstake it for a Boxster?

POST 8Original post

The C4S is a beautiful car... but imho so is the 997/997S Just enjoy what you have and the @#$ with the rest...

POST 9Original post

John, I can't agree more! I like the 996 so much that I am trying to find a good deal on a 04 or 05 TT Cab or will buy the local dealers allocation for an 05 TT'S" Cab (which I really don't want because of the PCCB). I really don't care about the X50 as I can't routinely use the 414hp that is standard. All the extra packaged features simply run the MSRP up into the stratosphere. I looked at an 04 (new) that has so many accessories that the MSRP is over $166K. Sometimes I see the Porsche scene as being more about the one with the most toys wins or keeping up with the Jone's than the pure enjoyment of the vehicle. It is not a matter of "playing and paying" but rather being happy with what one has! My 01 C2 Cab is a wonderful automobile but I would like the glass rear window, PSM, NAV and the rear Wing, which the 04 0r 05 will have standard. I also have some concern about the RMS issue and my warranty expires in December. I look in my garage and see more money in automobiles than some folks will earn in a lifetime, and like you, count my blessings.

POST 10Original post

Yeah very.... that's only problem I have with it.

POST 11Original post

I really love my 996. It is the nicest, smoothest and best mannered sports car I have ever driven. Truly a work of art! Now if I could just talk that guy zippin' around my little town into letting me cruise his GT2 for a short stint with him riding shotgun...

POST 12Original post

I agree that the 996s are a piece of art. I love the looks and feel of my 996 black cab and would not think of trading it in on a 997. Cabman

POST 13Original post

964, 993, 996 or 997 they only thing that matter is the classic shape, that has not changed one bit IMO since the 356, and the fact that it has it engine out back is all I need to know. There are always ppl who talk about which one is better blah blah blah and they are 100% RIGHT, why because they LOVE their CARS!!! Right now I am still undecided on whether I want a 993, 996 or wait a year and buy a 997, but I know no matter which 911 I choose as my first I will be in love.

POST 14Original post

As has been repeated here numerous times,,, once you bring your "new" or "new to you" Porsche 911 home and it sits in your driveway, carport or garage, you fall in love with it, the lines, the color, the styling, the wheels, the sounds, etc. You take a million pics of it and you want to show them to all you are in contact with. Unfortunately, a Porscheman probably shows the car pics to more folks and is more proud of it then showing children or wive pics (not me tho, lol). When the 911 came to my attention in the late 60s I got hooked and have been ever since. It was not until 1995 that I was able to afford my first Porsche 911,, a 993 guards red,, new. Well, time for work and a nice 10 mile drive in my new 996 cab. I get excited everyday when I get into the Cab and start it up... Then at around 4 30, 15 mins before I leave work, I get excited again thinking about driving this beauty home. What a deal!!! Cabman

POST 15Original post

That being the case, I'd say you are really getting your money's worth.

POST 16Original post

I had considered purchasing a C4s. I love the car, and have always loved the shape of the 911's. I do also love the 944 and always have as well. I put at least 20k miles on a car in a year, so getting the C4s to pile miles onto seemed foolish. I ended up keeping my Audi and buying an 86 944 turbo. I agree completely with sly and cabman. It's not what the car is to everyone else, it's what the car is to YOU. I'll sometimes take a 15 minute break at work just to go for a ride. Every time I get in the car it's like a new car to me. Every day that I have to take the Audi it is like a letdown because I'm not driving the Porsche. That being said, damn do I love the looks of the 997. When they come out with a C4s version of it I will buy it. Hmm....maybe it's time for a drive... Chuck

POST 17Original post
