Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi , anybody know of a fix for a noisy bearing in the a/c compressor ? i have a whine that is present ( and growing LOUDER ) when the a/c is on in my 996 . ive had an OPC look at it , thinking the noise was coming from the front of the car ( it sounds like its actually in the cabin in the passenger footwell ) . they first said it was a bearing in the cooling fan behind the condensor , then they said it was because the condensor had a hole in it . so , they replaced the condensor and told me that the noise was cured , but it wasnt . So they now say that the car needs a new a/c compressor and that a bearing is worn in the existing unit . they think the whining noise is in the compressor and the sound "travels underneath the car through the a/c pipes from the compressor to the condensors , and therefore appears to be coming from under the dash " (!!??) anybody experienced this ? thanks , slate

Bump. I started hearing the same sort of loud noise today. It sounds almost like the blower motor is out of balance. FWIW it is 93 and humid - top down.
