POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Major pains letting her drive my car to her work today. The queasiness was quelled when she called to say she made it safely to work w/o incident........Time has slowed....Anxiety building. .......

POST 2Original post

doesn't want to make you un-comfort. but think about how women parking.......

POST 3Original post

Wow, tell her not to forget to give your ***** back. jk

POST 4Original post

hope she makes it back, without damaging you Porsche.....must be hard that thing is almost brandnew ...bet has no scratch on it at all ....are you sure she parked far enough away from other cars, so they can't "ding: your doors or side panels??? And hopefully she didn't scrape your front bumper driving over bumps either ......okay these are all the worries that I could come up that with might haunt you right now! better check the P very carefully when she gets back....if she gets back...today , she might take the opportunity to go go out on the town and have a couple of her pump wearing girlfriends step on your rear seat leather!!! and smoking and burning wholes while eating gyro's or pizza in it!!

POST 5Original post

[rant] What is it with women and parking? And why do they think it's OK to scrape a $2k set of rims against the kerb, and then act like it's a big deal if you leave so much as a newspaper on their precious sofa? [/rant over]

POST 6Original post

Don't sweat it. As long as she doesn't get complacent, nothing will happen. People get sloppy over time. I doubt if an occasional borrow will hurt. Why is she driving it any way though?

POST 7Original post

Its a car, who cares. If it makes her happy then you will be happy. I let my wife drive anything we own, I would feel worse if something happened to her......not the car.

POST 8Original post

Agreed. My wife drives the 996 and the M3 more than I do becuase it seems like I'm always stuck in 3rd car for business reasons. We had a training session on where it was acceptable to park the car and she's alwyas very good about it. No worries anymore. Andy

POST 9Original post

My gf will be receiving a similar training session as part of her stick-shifting training! Unfortunately my ex-wife was very resistant to such training, and thoroughly trashed the wheels on my beloved MG ZT

POST 10Original post

I let mine drive once in a while, she knows how **** I am about it and treats it accordingly. It keeps me from having to buy her a convertible S4.

POST 11Original post

All To go with the damaged wheels from hitting a pot hole two years ago, my darling tore the small spoiler loose that is located in front of the wheel of our 996 last week. She was going into the same parking lot where she caused $1200. in damages to her BMW wagon by getting a little too close to a concrete curb. To all Toronto Rennlisters, this is the lot beside the 7 Thieves so best to use the lot on Price Street!! I can't get upset as she is worth far more to me than the car......with some messing around, I believe I've managed to get the spoiler back in place.

POST 12Original post

Your wife? Is she the one I saw nose-scraping into the parking area? I think she flung that door open so wide it hit the concrete pole....but hey, a little bondo should fix things. Your are brave. My wife drove my '99 C2 Cab twice. Once around the block, once to the mall. She has riden in the '04 C4S Cab twice, never driven, never will. Relax, and go have a cold one. Or two.

POST 13Original post

Happy Wife , Happy Life. So anyway why was your wife driving your car to her work...was she trying to impress her boyfriend

POST 14Original post

Eric Thanks a lot pal.... Had a cold one, then went out to check door...had another cold one to celebrate! You must have exceptional eyesight to see the Thieves parking lot from where you are...no wonder your products are so good. The solution for the problem is to adjust our fleet. She loves her 540IT Sport wagon, but the new BMW wagons are ugly, heavy and only come with a 6/4matic. She's testing an Audi A3 2.0T with DSG and a Boxter S in the next few weeks...two for 25% more than the price of one....we shall see. Have a great weekend all Ian Note:For those outside of Toronto, the "7 Thieves" is a notoriously expensive group of food stores in mid-town Toronto

POST 15Original post

lol...just taught the girlfriend how to drive stick the other day in the car, she picked it up faster than anyone I have ever seen before. Now the fact that she can drive stick might be the biggest mistake I have ever made

POST 16Original post

here's go an old chinese saying: people's problem is always want to someone's teacher.

POST 17Original post

My bride of 20 yrs HATES driving my P-car. She likes driving a stick and loves being a passenger in it, but claims that, at 5'3", the seat bottom is too long and that she cannot find a comfortable driving position. We had to switch cars last week, and she called me to ask why the clutch was sunk into the floor and wouldn't come up. And, when I came home, the garage smelled like burnt oil. No damage done, from what I can tell. So, after briefly consoling my wife about how terrible it must have been to drive a Porsche for the day, I cuddled my car and thought I saw it smile that I had returned. -- M

POST 18Original post

If it tells you anything, my wife suggested I get the tag OTHRWMN for my p-car. She won't ever drive it - 1) she's afraid of manuals, and 2) she's terrified of scratching it.

POST 19Original post

I let mine drive the 996, a tip, once in awhile, but I worry about her braking and parking habits. I have been teaching her stick in the boxster, but it slow work, we never leave the neighborhood and she stalls it at least 20-30 times.... I just watch those clutch pennies falling out of my pocket... But when she has a good time in the car, it is fun for me as well. Plus I get to hear that sport exhaust come rumbling into the driveway, and it works great cause she thinks I am so glad to hear her coming , I just go outdoors..... lol

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No my ***** are just fine...she borrowed my Boxster a few years back (after about a year of avoiding her driving it alone) she drives it out to her brothers and parks it and the people next door has a kid learning to drive...their car runs into it. She just has real bad luck with cars......

POST 22Original post

What did you find was the best way of teaching her to find the engagement point? I have been trying to teach my gf in my WRX for a while, but it has a really vague clutch and clunky gearbox so it's not the perfect car for the job. I'm preparing myself for teaching in the 996 now...

POST 24Original post

I have to echo what Robyn said!!!!! Christ guys, have some faith in your women. For example, my wife is addicted to speed and tracks the car with skill and precision. Almost loves the car as much as I do. If you teach her about it and get her invloved she just might love it as much as you do. Remember, motoring is NOT gender specific.

POST 25Original post

My wife takes it on the weekends to the gym, etc, before i am even awake. I put a ski rack on mine, do donuts in muddy parking lots, its just a car. She drives often when i am passenger, and i am always getting on her to bring the rpms up. She is afraid to "beat on it". I do love it when she gets a little road rage when people try to pull the fast right lane sweeps when we are in a line of cars waiting to pass in the proper lane. I have seen her hit triple digits a few times. I need to remind her that she tells me i drive too fast. If and when i make it to the track, i have already told her she needs to come along and get into it.

POST 26Original post

My wife liked to drive the P before I lowered it...I actually bought a tip because she can't drive stick. Now that the P is lowered she hates it......I sometimes "force" her to drive it so I can enjoy my car following her. She made me buy her a X5....drives pretty nice too.

POST 27Original post

Well said kilrgt. Wife and kids come first, everything else doesn't even rank on the list including the pcar.

POST 28Original post

I forgot to add that it was my wife's idea to purchase another car this summer......a GT3 at that.

POST 29Original post

Hahah...good idea, except that SHE is the 2nd wife. The first one was just a learning exercise.

POST 30Original post

you arte a lucky man Dell.... I wish mine was so supportive...she loves her X5

POST 31Original post

I count my blessings everyday. And she is the primary bread winner as well. Not sure what she saw in me when she married me.

POST 32Original post

I actually didn't explain the engagement point to her...Just told her to keep the clutch in and slowly release while pressing the gas...You're problem might just be the WRX, I used to have a 350z and I know that it would have been ALOT harder to teach her on that. It was really clunky and hard to get used to. I told her to push the clutch all the way in and slowly release while giving slight gas. She stalled twice in an hour...I couldn't believe it lol.

POST 33Original post

My wife was the one who said "...it's time you got a Porsche, you've always wanted one". Therefore she can drive it anytime she wants! BTW: she's an awesome driver.

POST 34Original post

Thanks for the input. You're probably right about the WRX being the problem. The clutch is rather vague, and then there's the all-or-nothing characteristic of the engine. Right, beloved gf gets back from Brazil tomorrow, so I'll get her started so she can drive the Silver State!

POST 35Original post

HA! Let my ex-wife drive the Boxster once and the 86 911 once. The key word is ex-wife!

POST 36Original post

My wife hasn't driven my 996. She used to drive all my BMW's and my Boxster S from time to time. However her cars regularly come home with dents and scratches and are always filthy inside and out. It drives me nuts. I compare it to when I let the house get messy. That she understands, but the cars still get trashed. So she's driving a Lexus ES 300 now. I convinced her that she was killing the 540i 6spd with her 3 hour in-town commute. She knows that she's a bit inatentive and doesn't park where she should. I got the Lexus so we can drive the wheels off it and its sooooo ugly that I don't care as much about the scratches and dents. Once our resturant is paied off she is buying an M3 for herself. I'll try not to bitch too much..... I'm just moraly opposed to trashing a nice car. And believe me I'm not **** retentive just hate to set the occasional 1 foot long scrape an inch wide from a parking mishap!

POST 37Original post

You kept both Pcars? I wish I'd had your attorney when I got divorced

POST 38Original post

It's apparent to me who got the better end of that deal.

POST 39Original post

Have to agree (once again ) with Robyn. Damn, some of y'all are some real insecure egomaniacs.

POST 41Original post

I think the thread was started as a semi-joke if I read it correctly. Yes, enjoying cars isn't gender specific, but the topic would've been just as funny if the roles were reversed and a woman posted that she was nervous about letting her husband cook dinner for the family (or anything else that women do as majority - no flames, just statistics). It's obvious that there are very few gender specific roles or hobbies anymore. I think he originally posted it because on average, the people on the site are men and MOST of the men do not have wives / gf that track the car or are as much of an enthusiast as they are. It doesn't mean we have to point out that there are woman that do drive p cars, does it? Hey I went to culinary school and can cook 1/2 decent, but if a woman were to make a remark such as the example I gave earlier... it would be passed off as being funny, no? Do we really have to be that sensitive about some of the things we say?? =) With that being said, no my wife doesn't drive my p-car. She told me that she wants me to get her a cab and will wait until she gets it. If she wanted to drive it, sure I'd be nervous about it. I don't think it would be any different than her being nervous about me handling her Louis Vuitton collection.

POST 42Original post

Ooh..you mean it was all said in jest? Silly me, continue on gentlemen.... There is nothing wrong with being nervous about your signifcant other driving your Pcar...but lets get a grip....be nervous because of HER/HIS safety, not the car's. Someone who is not prepared to drive such a car CAN hurt themselves or others. I realize that I am in the minority in that yes, being a woman, I own a few Pcars, and yes, I know how to drive them. But, come on...some of the comments here are sensitive in nature. If you are going to post about that, expect to get some negative comments, as well as some that might support the way you feel. It's the way it goes. (And I don't believe that we are even close to being in a flame war....but, if we do not agree with something said, why can we not say so?) In the end...it's just a car. An object that can be replaced. However, I suppose that some of you might feel your women can be replaced, too. Hey, more power to you. I suppose that if my car had one of those "things", I wouldn't need a man in my life either. If you are worried about the car, take her out and show her how to drive it. If she is still nervous, buy her one for her very own. But, I would imagine that some of us can't hand over the keys without the "lecture", which makes them nervous and more prone to making mistakes. There are tons of ways of handling it. Cheers! PS I hope your wife brought your baby back in one piece, which means she came back to you in one piece....I for one would want to share the same exhiliration and passion for the car with my man, simply because he would "get it" on why I love my car so much...and seeing his smile would be awesome! PSS Back to baking cookies for me...

POST 43Original post

Not everyone is as blessed as I feel I am... I let a couple of my cousins take her out for a spin...seeing their faces made my day. Sharing it is nearly as good as owning it. Oh...and I make one helleva mean desert! No, really!!

POST 44Original post

LOL, I agree with what you're saying, but lost track of my thought process after seeing that desert. Really, there's nothing quite as good as a good cup of coffee and desert, ya? Anyway, I abosolutely agree with you in the fact that I also believe that the person behind the car is so much more important than the object or car. I think I read a while back where some people were saying how their pcar was like family and how maticulously they took care of it. I'm glad I wasn't in the minority with not agreeing with that statement. My pcar isn't even a close second to family... not even close. Maybe the guy originally posting this wasn't trying to be funny, but that's how I took it. I just think we live in a world where people are too sensitive and it's VERY difficult to be politically correct at all times. Asian, not oriental; caucasian, not white; firefighter, not fireman... it goes on and on. It was a lame attempt on my part to defend what I felt like was something taken out of context. Because I don't know the thread starter personally, it was a moot point at that. I agree with you though... I share my car with friends and family (there is some nervousness, but I don't think it's because I value the care more than the driver). Ultimately, like you said, it's just a car and the driver is so much more important. Good points.

POST 45Original post

ARE YOU CRAZY ROBYN???? Letting other people (even relatives) driving your P and a Turbo on top of that!!! I wouldn't like to see your face when your P is damaged....remember the Ferrari Enzo post a couple of months ago?? (I am just kidding!!!!!....like you stated it is a car...and when you are reponsible everybody can drive any car...just don't try to be a F1 driver and it will all work out!!) The only problem is when you have a stick!!! Most Americans can't drive stick!! I am European and grew up with a stick....auto transm were about $5K more! My wife can't drive stick so I bought a tip..next car is going to be a stick, because she hates to drive sportscars...she loves SUV's but only the sporty ones...X5, landrover, cayenne.... By the way do you fly Robyn?? I just had my first lesson.

POST 46Original post

And Dell you are a lucky man!! I thought you wrote a couple of books, to be able to afford yourself P cars and track them too...that is how my father in law made his money as a professor! But having a wiffe with that kind of money makes life very sweet...my wife is my business partner and does most of the work before and after and during a photoshoot!! You got the love the hard working women!!!

POST 47Original post

Very exciting! I haven't flown in some time, many years. I'd like to pick it up again and finish getting my license. Right now, I am trying my hand at digital photography (something I think you can appreciate, no?). We'll see how I do. It's quite involved. But, I digress....

POST 48Original post

Screw the photography (no offense Nic), you need to open up a restaurant with those desert making skills!!

POST 49Original post

Crazy world. I just taught my 66 year old mother how to drive the AUTOMATIC on her new MB...

POST 50Original post

My mother (and father, but mainly mum) had to teach me how to drive automatic, after I learned to drive in a stick!

POST 51Original post

I completely agree with RobynC. I love seeing family and friends get out of the car after taking it for a spin and saying wow, that's great. Generally I let anyone drive it, most people are surprised when I'm fine with it, but it's only a car and I can get another one. My wife uses when ever I'm not. I'm not a fan of having it go to the mall or the supermarket, but she knows I'm a little nuts about it, and parks appropriately.

POST 52Original post

I'm still trying to feel that relaxed about it. For most of my friends, I'm completely happy to give them the keys, and sometimes I don't even ride with them. But, there are one or two people who make me nervous, and I know they'll be asking for a drive soon. At risk of re-igniting things, I had a couple of very bad experiences with my ex-wife and her friends, who were not respectful of other peoples' property. I'm still working my way back to fully trusting others to play with my toys

POST 53Original post

I think that's reasonable. If someone isn't going to respect you or your toys, that's another thing altogether. I wouldn't feel relaxed either, they could hurt themselves or others.

POST 54Original post

I encourage my wife to drive the car whenever she wants. I think the only thing hotter then a great looking P car is seeing a hot woman driving one. Damn! I let me friends drive it too, well most of them. They have to understand the respect it deserves, but as long as they do, no problem. It's a great and fun car to drive. Why not share the experiences.
