I won't bore you guys with the details (unless you guys say you want to hear about them), but as just one example of the many problems with the installation and system, Meridian installed the charge-cooler too close to the air conditioning condenser and it rubbed a hole in the charge-cooler.

Are they those long legs that stretch out, then wrap around you, pulling you in and making you want to go forever?" "Does she get light on her feet the faster you go?", "Can she change directions and keep her personality in check at the same time, or will she need a little "attitude adjustment" from time to time?" All these questions and so little time to explore the answers.

WARNING!!!!!!!! SULTRY, SEDUCTIVE AND SUGGESTIVE LANGUAGE FOLLOWS. I ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS FOLLOWING YOUR READING OF THIS POST. (especially your running out and having a supercharger kit installed)
I watched her coming down off the enclosed transporter. Sitting there, she was so strikingly beautiful. Shiny, silver, with black wheels and blacked out windows. Everyone could plainly see she was a beauty. The real questions I kept asking myself were "How does she sound?", "How does she move," "Does she shift confidently?", "Is her power overwhelming or just seemingly endless and reassuring?", "What does she have tucked up under her as she sits there? Are they those long legs that stretch out, then wrap around you, pulling you in and making you want to go forever?" "Does she get light on her feet the faster you go?", "Can she change directions and keep her personality in check at the same time, or will she need a little "attitude adjustment" from time to time?" All these questions and so little time to explore the answers.
So, there she sat . . . a silver angel exuding both speed and beauty. I opened her door and let her black, supple leather seats caress my body as I slid in. Immediately, I noticed how she softly cradled my backside, inviting me in as if to ask, "Won't you stay for a while?" The feeling imparted by her seat was one of warmth, gentleness and kindness. As this was my first time, her touch just made me feel at ease inside of her. This car isn't the BEAST I had heard or dreamt about, she isn't the "hair on fire", "oh, my god, what the hell am I doing" behemoth meant to instill fear in the young and old alike. Or is she? Carefully, I steadied myself, you know what they say, "Don't judge a book by its cover." Sure the outside screams subtle hints that there is something special about this car, but the seats, these damn seats are so soft and gentle, and lines are so sexy as the moonlight bounces off of them.
So I closed her door gently. It was just me and her. I pressed her clutch and made the first move by reaching for her key on the left. I hesitated briefly, but then turned the key firmly thereby creating a sound normally reserved for the outer rings of hell. Startled at first by her sound, she exploded, "VRRRROOOOOMMMMM, TAT, TAT, TAT, TAT, TAT," then, a moment later, her voice settled into a low, soft, almost gentle, purring cadence. I thought, "What a pussycat. She's going to be an easy score."
Again, I questioned myself, is her gorgeous exterior just for show? Is this car all hype? Is she just another good looking girl, like I've had a dozen or more times before. I said outloud, "I wish she sounded meaner. I wanted this one to be special. More assertive." Then, I heard it. It was a small, whiny voice from behind my head. Is that? . . . Is that? Yes, yes, I believe it is. It's the subtle whine of a supercharger back there. What? What are you saying sweetheart? Ahhh, yes, speak to me, tickle my ears with your seductive oration. Gently she whispered, "Be careful what you wish for my new acquaintance. I may be holding you and delighting you right now with my supple leather and soft purring sounds; but don't be fooled, I am not what I seem. I am not who you think I am. You'll soon discover whether I am friend or foe, whether I can give what you desire and whether you are man enough to carry on with me this way."
After a moment's pause spent thinking about the sultry words of caution I just heard, I shook my head a few times to try to shake her voice from my head. Listening again to the soft purr, I slipped my hand over her **** and gently moved her six-speed into 1st, as I eyed the turn out of the parking lot and onto the service road. With her revs up to about 1,200 rpm, I slowly released pulled off of her clutch causing her to lurch forward with her first move, then her rpms fell off hard and fast, the moment is almost lost, I quickly depressed the clutch and stabbed hard at her brakes. Whew! I saved her from dying and more importantly saved myself from the embarrassment of losing the moment with her.
What was that? Hummmm? She didn't have too much rotating mass back there to assist me in this engagement. Ahhh, a lightweight flywheel, nice! Not much meat on her bones, I like it like that. And this clutch, what's with her clutch? It engages assuredly quick through its range, as if it wants to get her up to speed fast. No foreplay with this one you think, that's the feel and engagement usually reserved for a . . . for a . . . fast woman . . . a race car. But, she doesn't look like a race car. "What the hell?," I said, "if she wants to act like one, then I'll give it to her like one."
So, I pressed hard on her clutch, this time keeping her RPMs up around 2,000 . . . her voice was getting raspy as she breathed in and out a little more deeply. . . out on the clutch . . . quickly now . . . more gas . . . hurry, hurry . . . harder on the gas . . . where did her soft little purr go? turn . . . turn the steering wheel dummy . . . Now, she is screaming at me, "Better shift me now! I'm feeling it." I lifted the throttle, depressed the clutch and quickly slammed her gears into second. (Wow, I was a short, tight 1-2 throw.) Off the clutch quickly, again . . . I mashed her throttle hard . . . MORE . . . MORE . . . her rear end screamed at me in a fevered pitch as she nipped at my ears with her now much quickened breathing and as we approached the Interstate onramp, she tempted, "Go on, I dare you. You aren't man enough!" I pressed into her throttle with more force and I felt her instantly pleasure me by squeezing both of my butt cheeks with everything she had in her supple leather seat. The hard squeeze made me want more, made me want to explore her more deeply.
I smiled and tried for third, no stopping me now as I blasted past 90 mph. She was in the heat of the moment now and at full song. I could feel her pace quickening in lockstep with the beat of my heart. I felt so close to her now. She was so firm, so solidly built and more aggressive than anything I'd experienced before. She urged me to give her more, "Come on baby, I was made for rides like this. My juices are just starting to flow now. Can't you hear me breathing? Really give it to me now !" So again, I pressed even deeper into her throttle, 100 . . . 110 . . . her red eyes are lit up through her dash and winked at me. The winking said, explore me if you will. I was pressing as deeply into her as I could, then I heard her take a few short, staggered, but pleasured breathes as I bounced up and down on her rev limiter.
Where's fourth? There it is!!!!! She did have those longs legs, and they were wrapping themselves around me. I wanted to go on with her forever as she wrapped one leg, then the other around me. With rhythmic, synergistic motion I pressed into her deeply and she forcefully pushed me back as we both hurled towards those same outer rings of hell she first alluded to back when I first twisted her key . . . 115 . . . .125 . . . .130 . . . 135 . . . I couldn't help but smile as our breathing quickened together. Then I felt it, I had to stop now. Others were watching. I couldn't keep going. If I continued I might have broken her. So I whispered "Okay, okay, baby. You win this one," as I prematurely pushed in on her clutch, lifted throttle, and slipped her box from fourth to sixth. I released the pressure on her clutch slowly and rolled off of her with light throttle.
As we both slowly decelerated and our heart rates both begin to slow in unison, I heard her seductively whisper in a curiously tantalizing tone, "I told you not to judge me based solely on my looks." Then she snidely quipped, "I suspected you were only a 'minuteman.' Now, we see who was premature. I was ready for more and you couldn't give it to me. You pulled out too soon. I wasn't there yet." To which I could only respond, "Look, you nemphomaniacle, seductress! This is neither the time, nor the place. There were people around and they were beginning to glare at us as we became lost in our moment back there. Be careful, I may have misjudged you back there in that parking lot, but don't make the same mistake with me that I made with you. Another time, another place, preferrably when no one's looking and a long, straight stretch of highway lies ahead, interrupted only by sweeping curves as gorgeous as your sculpted body; then, we will test both your stamina and mine."
"I'll show you how I can delicately take you right to the edge, giving you everything you can handle, then pull you back time after time, until you beg me for mercy or the road runs out. Then, only then, can you judge me. Baby, with your good looks, seductive power and nimble feel, not to mention the ride you just gave me, I know we have a long future together."
So, you see Penthouse . . . ur, umm . . . Rennlist, there you have it. I never thought it could happen to me, but this Supercharged 996 took me to the edge and gave me the ride of my life.
That's my recollection describing the first few minutes after starting my new toy. The dialogue and sequence of starting, shifting, driving and speeds are all exactly as I remember it . . . today, that is. There may be a little embellishment, but I DO recall telling her she is sexy, wondering if she has long legs and wondering how hard I could press into her without breaking her.
The supercharger is phenomenal. So refined and smooth. You can only faintly hear the SC spinning up under light throttle and slow speeds. The exhaust is awesome! At startup the engine and exhaust clearly and forcefully announce the car's presence, then after the rpms settle to a quick idle she just purrs in a low tone. Power on hard and it sounds very much like a Lamborghini Murcielago, though not as deep. A loud song with a pitch just above mid-range with a simultaneously gruf tone, being neither a high-pitched tone like a "rice-rocket", nor a deep, over-cammed rumble like a Detroit big block. But instead, something different altogether and definitely european in origin, like a perfect blend of Italian sound and German engineering.
Congratulations! She is a beauty. Excellent write-up too although it almost seems like it should start with
"Dear Penthouse, er, Rennlist Forum, I never thought this could happen to me..."
Programmatore:
If she didn't have my mind so clouded, you are correct. That would have been a much better introduction. I'm going to ummm, "borrow" your idea now.
The 996 is such a beautiful car, almost too pretty, but I was wondering Stuart, how many miles did she have before you supercharged her, was that a concern, and why that particular sc over any other like tpc. thanks
It had about 72K miles when it was supercharged. I am not the original owner, it is actually a two owner (now three) car, as two brothers owned it before me. The second brother is the one who opted for the s/c kit at 72K miles.
Meridian Automotive in West LA originally installed the EVO supercharger kit and they botched it royally. Fabryce over at Global Motorsports took charge of making sure the problems were all diagnosed and readily fixed. I won't bore you guys with the details (unless you guys say you want to hear about them), but as just one example of the many problems with the installation and system, Meridian installed the charge-cooler too close to the air conditioning condenser and it rubbed a hole in the charge-cooler. Okay, one more example. Meridian DID NOT FLASH THE GIAC SOFTWARE. Umm, can you say sloppy work?
I am glad the previous owner picked the EVO kit and I would have gone with that kit myself, as I was already looking at their kits for my 986 Boxster. I like the fact that EVOMS teamed up with VF Engineering and GIAC for the design of the system. I have talked to the engineers at both VF and EVOMS and they seem to really know their stuff, plus (and this part is big in my book) they both are completely willing to help you out with any issues after the sale. They really do want to hear if there is anything that goes wrong with their systems, as they are constently looking to improve the design of the systems. In fact, they have readily stepped up and offered improved/updated, belts, hoses and pulleys for some of the early systems like the one I have on mine.
The car now has 84K miles on it. GMG's compression tests showed the engine to be within Porsche specs and the leakdown tests showed the cylinders to be between 7% to 9% across all cylinders. A fresh engine will be around 3% to 5%. So overall, this is a very strong car and does not seem to have been severely, negatively affected by having been driven almost 12K miles with a botched initial supercharger installation.
Thanks for the advice on supercharging the aged. I remeber the ruf supercharger was not recommended for cars above 50,000 miles. Mine is right there and Im thinking about it, I also have the stock tiptronic and no one knows how that will hold up, even though I am a very occaisional "hot rodder"
I cant imagine the nightmare the po went through when they botched up his baby, you were very fortunate to fine the right help...cnm
Hi guys,
I seem to have exactly the same aerokit on my 996 C2 Cab as Stuart. Only there no compressor yet. I was researching the RUF unit, my car has "only" 25000 km on the clock. But then I was wondering about the effect of the compressor on the car, somewhere I read that the compressed engines only last roughly 20.000 miles and then you need an overhaul. Would that be an overhaul of the compressor unit or would that be of the whole engine (that would be one costly exercise).
I do use my car as a daily driver so plenty of mileage this would mean an overhaul per year.
Woow, thanks but no thanks
Would like to hear your views on this
thanks
Ronny
As to the car being "smogged", I don't know for sure as I live the "Natural State" --- Arkansas, where we don't even have annual car inspections before getting our tags. Basically, we pay the $30 provide proof of 6 months worth of insurance and they renew our tags for another year. How wonderful is that? Smog testing, in our view, is for the people on the left coast. Of course we can overlook environmental concerns when we only have 3.5 million people in the whole state, 45 minutes is a long time to wait in rush hour traffic and over 60% of our state is still either "forestland" or "farmland."
On the overhaul, from the wear on my car after 12K miles, I don't think an overhaul per year is necessary. Although, it will depend on just how the car is driven. Long trips on little if any boost = long mileage b/w overhauls, while short "***** out" driving and many track appearance = engine replacement 'cause rebuilding is too expensive.
very nice and welcome..... have you driven other 996s to compare against your supercahrged one? I'd be interested to know the results as I've been thinking about making the jump
Great car.
That is the exact kind of rear wing I would like to get. It looks like it replaces the moving part of stock wing, and looks like ones I have seen on cabs. I am not a huge taco fan. Is it the oem cab wing? would it fit a coupe? Does anyone know what this wing is called?
It does replace the moving rear wing. Only problem is every now and then the "rear wing" indicator light will not immediately go off upon startup, but then it goes off when the car starts moving. Weird.
I have not driven other 996's but will be driving a Guards Red 2006 996 C4S Cab that belongs to a client of mine in a couple of weeks. We are going to drive about 100 miles to his cabin on the lake and we will switch cars coming and going to feel the differences.
If you make the jump, please make sure to contact Evo for a "currently authorized installer" in your area. The guys at EVO will be glad to direct you. Please don't use anyone unfamiliar with the system or that you don't absolutely trust to install the system correctly.
See there, another day worth living 'cause I learned something else new. Thx, Programmatore.
Now about the overboosted steering . . . . does anyone else think the steering in their 996 is a little too light/overassisted?
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
