The Porsche and RUF kits are the only two kits I know of that are made using polyurethane.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Happy Memorial Day to you all. Awhile ago I finally was able to post updated picks of my 996 C2 and a few of you suggested I upgrade to the aerokit for it (side skirts and front bumper at least). I appreciated the suggestions and am now ready to at least contemplate and investigate my next mod: the body kit. So if any of you can add suggestions as to where to find a good body kit maker and what types you've had good experiences with fit and finish it would be much appreciated. Also anybody in the Metro DC/VA/MD area who has a shop or tuner they'd recommend for such work would be welcome. Thanks Md

POST 2Original post

MA Shaw will sell you the factory parts at a very competitive price. If you decide on the matching tail his aftermarket tail is a good product. I've used his parts before with minimal to no issues.

POST 3Original post

there is a body shop (wagonwerks, I think) in Alexandria route 1 that the Arlington Porsche and BMW delears recommend as body shop - not cheapest but good work (reportedly). Don't know if that is convenient to you though.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have been to wagonwerks befor and they do good work. Worked on my BMW twice. No problems. Any other suggestions as to areokits and/or pics of those by prospective makers? I know PCA-NA has a kit but that's only available at the factory correct?

POST 5Original post

Check out TechArt's full aero kits. For an example of how it would look, see the "Dear Penthouse . . . ur, umm . . . Rennlist" thread on this site.

POST 6Original post

Stuart, Are you sure you have the TechArt kit? From your pictures it looks like your car has the Porsche (OEM) Aerokit Mk 1 with the Porsche Carrera Cabriolet wing. Rob, I would go with the full Porsche Aerokit Mk 1 kit just like Stuart's car but with the bigger "taco" wing for the coupe. This is the classic pre-facelift 996 kit! The only other kit I would recommend is the RUF RGT Aerokit like the one I have. The Porsche and RUF kits are the only two kits I know of that are made using polyurethane. All other aftermarket kits are made using fiberglass or some sort of fiberglass mache which may give you fit and finish issues as well as not be able to take and impact as well as polyurethane. I used Wagonwerks II (down the street about 3 blocks from Wagonwerks). They weren't cheap but they did a pretty good job prepping and color-matching. HBL's body shop in Tysons is pretty good too but even pricier than Wagonwerks. You'll probably have a better chance finding a good body shop to install the OEM kit than an aftermarket kit -- a lot of the shops I talked to wouldn't touch an aftermarket kit (for the fit and finish issues I mentioned above).
