By the way, just had my exhaust installed (Ruf, and write-up to follow soon) and noticed you live in the NYC area.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just curious. I usually keep my car in the garage during the winter months, but am really thinking about taking her out to go snowboarding. Of course, I'd have to buy a rack and snow shoes, but I wanted to see if anyone out there (sans C4S and C4 owners) drives in snow.
Would love to hear some feedback
Jon,
I drive my C2 cab in the snow.
We've had a very mild winter thus far here in Toronto (mostly rain) but on the few snow days we've had it's been great.
With the weight over the rear wheels traction is better then in my old M5.
Winter set up is:
hard top
17" wheels with Dunlop M2's
Rubber mats instead of carpet
small shovel in the boot (just in case)
PSM always on
Cheers,
Stan
Jon,
I second it. I have the 18" sport classic IIs with Goodyear Ultra Grip GW3 winter tires all around. They are quieter than the contis and drive pretty well in the dry. This past weekend, I got a chance to drive around in the snow what with the cover that we got in Westchester. The car handled pretty well and allowed me to make it up my driveway snow, ice and all. Bear in mind that this is a driveway that I could not summit using summer tires in the past so I was very happy.
I would bear in mind that if there is a lot of snow, the issue won't be traction but clearance what with the low stance of the car. However, I am very happy to have gone with winter tires for the first time ever (after being stranded twice before in flash snowstorms and summer tires last year) and like the idea that I can drive the car year round without having to worry about 'winter cobwebs' developing in the engine.
By the way, just had my exhaust installed (Ruf, and write-up to follow soon) and noticed you live in the NYC area. On a nice day, it'd be awesome to hear the well-regarded Fabspeeds if you have an interest. Cheers.
I drive in the snow.... Use Dunlop Wintersport m2s (17") on my 01 996C2. Car rides great, snow is absolutely no problem. However, i was a little scared about the rear spoiler, it was frozen shut.... drove under 75 for a while to let it warm up; it rose, albeit begrudgingly.
For all the garage queens:
Good point about the clearance. I think as long as it's not a bloody blizzard I shuold be okay.
RUF exhaust, eh?
I would be more than up for a mini-meet. I actually know a few people actually who would be down for that. Let's keep in touch for the next upcoming weeks.
Yes I drive mine in snow, its pounded and Its one of the best cars I have owned in snow. I do run good winter tires,I went with goodyear ultra grip GD-3
Pirelli wintersport 240s on my C2.
LSD with PSM - the car is actually really good in the snow. It's also great fun to play around with the PSM off when the roads are clear. You can figure out, awfully quickly, just how much slip the system will let you get away with before clamping down on the fun.
Jon,
The Dunlop's work very well.
I was really surprised when I went to the dealer to buy rubber mats and they told me that they don't sell any for the 996! I ended up ordering a set from Pelican made by Lloyd's.
I forget to mention in my original reply that I won't drive the car if the snow is too deep, just not enough ground clearance.
I say put on a set of 17's with snows and enjoy the car.
Cheers,
Stan
was caught in the snow/sleet over the wknd and my girlfriend was definitely NOT a fan! I didn't put snows on it thinking I would only take it out if it didnt snow. I've got PSM and it definitely makes a difference. Ended up using my E320 4matic the rest of the wknd.
Definitely can't wait to do a NYC metro meet up real soon!!!
LAst winter I left my beloved in the garage and drove my beater...never again.
Slapped on winter tire and I drive it everyday....what's the point of paying so much money for a car and not using it. It took me a whole year to understand that, but I did see the light.
Jammy, not only are winter tires important for snow, but they're also important in cold temperatures. The rubber compound in summer tires is simply not adequate for temperatures below 40-45 degress F. It's like driving on glass rocks. Winter tires are much stickier in these cold environs....
Ed,
well noted...im rolling on some mich all season pilots now, but will make sure to take it easy this winter.
Jon,
yeah, the iforged essens are on order and should be here in Feb!!! can't wait! now considering pss9 suspension or similar since the car is at 55k miles. THere's no gap in the rear but a noticeable amount up front.
KilrGT,
of course bro!!! i was just up in T.O. couple months ago for our ecko unltd. concert/festival. Not bad up there but the car game is weak!!! We'll do a big P car meet up in midtown manhattan and roll through times square!!!
oh man, your car is going to look sick with those wheels...
hey, i might be doing the same thing: coil-overs in the near future. I was talking with cooperlee (over on 6speed) and we were thinking about rolling down to AWE (in PA) and getting it done. It'll be a nice drive and we can get in some "spirited" runs. We might also get a group deal, so if you want, i'll let you know when we go and we can all get them done at the same time.... ****, we're going to be scrapping everywhere in manhattan
I drive my 01 C2 Cab in the snow, only when it is not too deep. Fortunately I have a second car to play around in. 17" with Pirelli 240's, great traction.
Jon/Paul - mind if I tag along for the meet in NY.
Jon,
My cousin and i were lookin into picking up the pss9's thru Dan @ Vivid. What kind of price are u lookin at? Wouldn't mind doin the drive down to PA with u guys!
I'm not too sure what the price on PSS9s are, but I do know the install through them is $350 (which is pretty decent for coil-overs).... The guys at AWE said they might be willing to get it lower if we roll in with more people. How much is Dan charging you (pm me)?
Guys, Toronto rules. That's where my father is from (though I'm originally from Montreal). As I get up there once a quarter, we'll have to plan a meet north of the border too. Mind you, I'd likely be car-less unless it's summer.
On an aside, do you guys ever get to Yorkville? Every time I walk around there, I notice a bunch of nice cars that just seem to be cruising. Kind of like the beachside strips down in Florida, only much nicer cars.
I see a lot of losers driving Ferrari's round and round and round Yorkville. Usually guys in their 50s with lot's of jewelries. Pretty sad if you ask me. On the other hand it's kinda fun to sit on a patio and watch them troll. I wounder if they ever found love that way
