it is unusual for used car buyers to be willing to pay a substantial additional profit for expensive options in any model car in cluding porshes.

And I was hoping that I could get it as an option if my motor had to be replaced due to leaking seals!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

X51 Power Kit Option for 6spd only (not the TipS)
$13,990 gets you:
345hp
"Modified cylinder heads and camshafts; exhaust manifolds, control unit, additional central water radiator and aluminum intake manifold"
for $14k extra why not go all the way to a turbo? i'm sure it would be more fun and would offer better resale
also lots of good buys out there in dealer stock--check the dealer inventories on the pna website
I don't know the exact numbers, but there will be fewer X51s around than TTs. Therfore, I think they will hold ther values (relatively) better after a few years. The GT3 might be a more valid comparison and it will be about $14K more.
The X51 is a FANTASTIC package, well worth the money.
Just ask those who have driven or own them, and consider their bias/experience.
Discount appropriately those opinions derived only from paper reviews.
yeah I don't doubt that the numbers are real and that it would make a noticable difference, but as a student and stretching my savings and budget enough just to get a 996, it simply is too painful for the wallet.
I don't understand why this option isn't available aftermarket for a TipS. For 2002 The TipS transmission for the Carrera and Turbo is the same unit. If the TipS can handle the Turbo engine I don't know why it won't nandle the X51 package.
The X51 is a great package. In a C2 it creates a very different car from a TT, much more like a GT3. As the TT has been produced in mass quantaties, its resale has fallen dramatically. The limited run of X51's, supposedly only 110 cars in 2003 should help its resale significantly. Especially since they are each different, some cabs, some C4S, some C2, etc.
the number of people who even know what an x51 package is is tiny and inconsequential to maintaining resale value vs the better known turbo. in addition i doubt that any discount will be available for the few x51's that will be available this year.
that said these are both terrific supercars whose owners don't have to worry too much about resale
wouldn't it be nice if all problems were like this!
When they know about the X51, they will want one, provided there aren't too many GT3s around.
The Turbo (AWD) guys will want the X50 package for the same reason, more power.
Therefore the X51 should do better than the regular TT.
I wonder how many of the X51s remain on Dealer lots?
Is 110 the real build quantity?
With the base 997 having 345HP and the 997S having 375, I would think that both the X51 and GT3 would have dubious long-term value in the used market - makes me a bit nervous...
Good questions...
1. Is anyone able to confirm the 110 build quantity? I was told this by PCNA when I ordered my car.
2. Has anyone ordered a X51 in the last month or 2? Last I heard, back in October, the X51 was constrained and no orders were being accepted at that time.
3. What did everyone here pay. I know regular C2's were being dicounted by many thousands. I paid $1g under MSRP on a $117k car! Not the way I wanted it, but necessary at the time to get the X51 order in.

dont be nervous! none of our cars have long term value
they are depreciating assets--only the rate of depreciation varies between different models and marques
porsche and mercedes have both traditionally depreciated slower than most. new car buyers are the most discriminating and demanding. it is unusual for used car buyers to be willing to pay a substantial additional profit for expensive options in any model car in cluding porshes. few sellers will be patient enough to find that discriminating buyer especially if you trade your car in.
Ed, I ordered my X-51 on Oct.5th(I believe). My dealer, Aristocrat Motors(Merriam,Ks.)said "no problemo con tu carro, X-51 IS available." By the way, if you are looking for an awesome dealer talk to Aristocrat- Arnie Mcnett,[phone removed]. My order: arctic silver,18" Carrera whls.w/crests,030(rigid) susp.,leather sport seats w/crests,some option with a bunch of stainless steel looking accents,I.E. shifter, handbrake, door sills, funky exhaust tips, etc..,Bose upgrade $875, yes-a sunroof, rear spoiler like Don's,(they ordered it late so I get to keep my stock bonnet too),I can't remember what else w/out my order sheet. Price came in at around 93K, they discounted it 4K.I will put 10K down and finance for 4 years. My car payment is $500 more than my house pmt! How's that for Porsche crazy? My wife has no Idea since it is my co. car. If she did she'd s#!t an anvil. As far as an '03 quota,my dealer knew nothing about it(or wasn't saying).
One more thing, or ten, nobody in the local P-club knew any thing about X-51. We have a fairly good sized club with quite a few 996's and some very rabid Porsche fans.No one(sales, mgt, service) at my dealership even knew what X-51 is! I had to educate them and show it to them on the options list.I conclude this: It doesnt matter how many they can or will build, they wont sell many 'cause no one knows what the *!$*# it is. BY the way, what do you estimate # of miles as the break-in point for X-51? thanks

Hey Blustem, in the unfortunate event you ever find yourself having to rationalize your Porsche payment to your wife, as a last resort you can always put the car payment in the proper perspective by recalculating what your house payment would be if you were to pay it off over the same four years as your 911. Let's hope the matter just stays buried in the books.
Blustem, you need a bigger house!
I have done my fair share of education too. Did you get the confirmation sheet back from PCNA yet? Make sure you get one to verify the order is accurate!
I'm jealous that you got more money off!
As for break-in, hard to tell. I only managed to get 500 miles on the car before my first DE with it so that was my break in. The car only has 1300 miles on it now. I maybe will put 3-4k a year on so Porsches new break in specs are nearly impossible.
Ed, I did get the confirmation sheet and everything came in OK. Bigger house? I'm trying to convince my wife to go to a smaller one in order that we may purchase a fine condo on South Beach. No such luck. We have rooms in our house I've never even been in. These rooms are for collecting dust and meeting with life insurance salespeople.
Also, Ive got my eye on an '01 Sea Ray 410 Sundancer w/Cummins diesels. The equity in my house would be a nice fat down payment and we could live on the boat.A condo you could drive! She liked this idea even better.
I'd think you'd be money (and power) ahead by
A) Buying one of your buddy's 3.8 conversions and then...
B) Selling your documented perfectly running low mileage engine to someone else
Thanks but that was in 2003. In my observation, 996 OEM accessories/options seem to go up over time so not sure that's entirely an accurate representation of the current pricing(assuming you could get one). But either way, it will cost you at least 5 digits.
FWIW, the aluminum intake manifold is the only thing you can't replicate or reproduce via 3rd party reasonably IMO for the x51.
Don't be desperate Kman. No replacement for displacement.... if need more torque maybe its time to do a 3.8 rebore with nikasil cylinders and forged pistons for the same cost.
It was a factory option if ordered that way, standard on a 40th AE, or avaiable after vehicle purchase for dealer or self install. Last price I saw was about 10K. Im looking for an old stock (but new) at a dealer. I dont think its being produced anymore.
