Whoever ordered on 1/21 will get filled with that one.....

When I did my upgrade, I bought my mufflers used from Dennis C and sold my originals to Darin.

I bought a set of used mufflers from another rennlister and sent those to Darin for modification.

Reached out to Darin Fister on getting the FisterD hack for my 996 C4 Cab and found they are waiting on returned originals to fill orders.

rpm's - since I have a 3.4, do I need to find a set from a 3.6 to send to Darrin?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Reached out to Darin Fister on getting the FisterD hack for my 996 C4 Cab and found they are waiting on returned originals to fill orders. I realize I can pull my originals and send them to be moded but would prefer not to have the car out of commission that long (about 2 weeks). If anyone has gotten the upgrade and not returned their originals could you be so kind as to send them in I would greatly appreciate it.
When I did my upgrade. I bought a set of used mufflers from another rennlister and sent those to Darin for modification. I then sold my original mufflers to another rennlister. My car was never out of commission. You might consider that approach.
You can can remove the mufflers and bring them to a "good" muffler shop too. Bring photos of what you want done, either the PSE hack, or the bypass hack. Its better if they use stainless pipe but not mandatory.
Or,,,if your handy with a MIG or TIG, DIY. I've cut and rewelded mine a few times experimenting with the sounds.
It's simple. Really simple. If you have a good exhaust shop who has decent cutting and welding skills, you'll be fine.
Here's one version of the hack (the one that I did at my local indy):
https://rennlist.com/forums/7947225-post579.html
This version was never "loud enough". I know fister used to do them that way was was called "stage 1". I believe now he only has 1 version which connects inlet to outlet.
That is correct, I had some email exchange with Darin just last week, and he said he only does the inlet to outlet bypass pipe now for the 996/997, he no longer does the PSE style hack by cutting the round "button" off to join to the outlet pipe.
This will hijack the thread a little,
I am looking for the screws used to hold the mufflers in place, well not the muffler but the pipes that connect, right by the bumper. There was a thread here with a link to US seller for those as you need stainless steel. Can't find the thread anymore maybe someone remembers what size they are and a place I could order them from, as porsche requires to buy the whole clip to get the screws it it.
I've checked several muffler shops in the area and just don't get the warm feeling of doing it locally. From no TIG welder, can I take out the mufflers and bring them in, we don't recommend stainless because of cost, to "never done it before but I'll give it a try. Talked to Darin last night and in a week and a half I've gone from #4 to #3 in the queue.
My request again for those who have recently got theirs done and haven't returned their originals - PLEASE jump on it so I can enjoy that beautiful sound.....
I have a buddy with a set that was hacked locally - he opted to NOT use them and bought a complete ?fabspeed? set up
last I talked to him he wanted to sell them, I imagine you could pick them up, use them while yours are out and then just re-sell?
interested ?
PM Me I will get you his info - or better yet PM me YOUR email address - I will send it to him
No... I am squeezing this upgrade into my newly acquired '87 924S budget and so had to go basic.
My wife, a Porsche fan herself, asked me if the Fisters were a grown up version of putting baseball cards in the spokes of my bike. I answered honestly.
That is funny!!
What is not funny is that I've got a pair of these sitting in the basement at the moment, shined up with wirebrush wheels, but likely won't install them for at least two more months since the car is in winter storage now with the passenger side and the back of the car up against the walls, so I can't even jack up the car or take the bumper off without moving the car around, not going to do that especially when we have a winter storm roaring through at the moment.
Having the FisterDs in my hands but can't hear them is driving me bunkers!!
Got your message but due to cost I'm finding it not practical to buy, ship, modify and ship again. The cost of shipping is roughly $60 and the hack is $275.
I'm taking some feedback from my Rennlister pals and exploring having a local muffler shop do the FisterD Stage II work for me. I'm coming up empty, anyone know a good custom muffler shop in or around Atlanta that won't look at me like I'm from Mars when I ask if they could do a FisterD type mod with stainless and TIG welding?
You're asking for a lot. Only specialized race shops will be equipped to do that for the most part. Good Luck with your search.
Just curious, why do you feel it need to be Tig welded?
I've migged custom motor mounts before supporting 400 lbs that not only has to support the weight but deal with the vibrations. Tig welds do like nice and you can weld thin pieces of metal like Aluminum and control the penetration rate a lot more accurately but Mig is just as effective for something like this, especially since it doesn't see any real stress levels. Plus it's gonna be tucked up where no one can see it anyways. Just make sure it's Gas Mig welded (Argon + CO2). My $.02
Rpm's S2 and Dream911 - I talked to Darin last night and he expects one returned exhaust to be in w/in the next week. Whoever ordered on 1/21 will get filled with that one.....
Just for my Porsche brethren, I bought a set of 996 exhaust (& tips) off of Craigslist on Saturday and shipped them off to Darin the same day.

I wish everyone was as responsive as Chuck. Darin doesn't require the core cost upfront so once he has shipped a set to a customer it's the honor system for them to return the original cores. Unfortunately some folks take a while to ship them back. Chuck's situation is great, he can get those cans done. Now if he'll return the originals on his car one of those on the wait list could get theirs installed or pull theirs off and wait or do what Chuck did and find them somewhere.
Chuck, I wish you luck on yours - I'm a little sweamish when it comes to Craiglist purchases. Also, Chuck when you return your originals to Darin he will give you a $375 (I think that's right) core fee.
Actually, I don't have a 996. I have a Boxster S that Darin already modified the exhaust for. He also did the mufflers on my past 993 turbo. Anytime I come across a good buy on Craigslist for Porsche exhaust I forward it to Darin and ask him if he wants them. He wanted these!
Ahhhh, finally got my Fister D mufflers put on late this afternoon/evening, can't believe it still took me almost 4 hours even though I had taken the original mufflers and exhaust tips off last year so there were no rusty/seized fasteners to deal with, I wasn't rushing as I kind of enjoy working on this car.
I did spend an inordinate amount of time fighting with the exhaust tip clamps, these things are a royal PIA to say the least, probably added at least 1/2 hour to the work.
Of course I went for a drive right afterwards, no doubt everyone around you will know you mean business if you hammer the throttle, the sound gets louder as the RPM builds up, it's more pronounced in lower gears as the RPM rushes towards the redline.
The level of the exhaust sound is easily controlled through throttle input and gear selection, as everyone has commented, it does not drone, quiet at cruising speed/RPM, but announces your presence with the right combination of throttle input and RPM range.
I also suspect it will sound noticeably louder to others behind you than inside the cabin of the car, so keep that in mind with who may be around/behind you and not draw the unwanted kind of attention.
Oh it's a blast going through tunnels and underpasses!
No, you can use either the 3.4 or 3.6 cans for your MKI. The only caveat is that if you have a Tip, you'll need cans that have the accordion folds which came with MK1 Tip cars and all MKII cars.
