Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Just use a small screw driver to pry off the metal clip that holds the strut to the hood (a bang with a rubber mallet worked well) - and be careful the hood doesn't slam shut when the strut pops off (since the other side is probably very weak as well).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After banging my head on the front trunk one time to many I decided to replace the struts today. Stabilus parts on Pelican (look like Porsche OEM supplier) were ~$23 each. For those that haven;t done it before - when you get the new parts, it is pretty obvious how they go in. Just use a small screw driver to pry off the metal clip that holds the strut to the hood (a bang with a rubber mallet worked well) - and be careful the hood doesn't slam shut when the strut pops off (since the other side is probably very weak as well). Picture of the metal clip below. Remove the bottom of the strut in the same way. The new ones came pre-lubed - else just apply a bit of grease on the ball joint. About a 5 minute job per side (or less). Now hood pops up much more soothly and stays up !

POST 2Original post

Nice job, you didn't even get dirty. BTW That shadow is a little obscene.

POST 3Original post

Strong work. I did mine last year. If only the Cayenne rear hatch struts were so easy...

POST 4Original post

I recently did mine too. Got tired of it coming down unexpectedly on my head. Much better now.

POST 5Original post

Me too, it hurts when the trunk lid collapses on your head. I don't know which is worst, the hurt or the surprise. Cold weather turns the struts to wet noodles.
