Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace starter' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean place' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

If you pry it up, you have to be carful not to mangle the alloy mount, it is hard to find a clean place to pry.

Personally, I could not get it out until I had the manifold out, when I was replacing the AOS.

I was beginning to think the link I posted was for a Mk1 and perhaps something changed for Mk2's.

It took me about 2 hours to remove when I did it to change the voltage regulator.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Few questions from a new Porsche owner (2003 C4S)
Yesterday I successfully replaced the starter. I tried to gain some working space by removing the alternator, but it hits the manifold directly above it. I did remove all the attached hoses in the area that occupy space, but no luck.
I read the below DIY several times to make sure I'm not missing something, but there is no room to rotate the alternator clock wise.

1 - Is it possible to get the alt out removing just those bolts ?
2 - Is there a known place that takes used starters for reman purposes ?
Thanks in advance!
Any Alternator or Starter can be rebuilt by a specialty shop if you have one close by. Dont know where your at. If you lived around here, I would bring the Alt/starter to:
Don's Alternator Generator

K, thanks. I am in upstate NY so that far for me. Ideally I would find a place that I can send it and recoup some cost. I dont personally have an immediate need for it
I found the alt VERY hard to remove. The right hand fitting where the alt body slides in to the hinged mount where the long bolt goes through is very very tight. If you pry it up, you have to be carful not to mangle the alloy mount, it is hard to find a clean place to pry. Personally, I could not get it out until I had the manifold out, when I was replacing the AOS. It sure looks like it won't go.
It will come out, but not easily. As per the manuals instructions you need to loosen the through bolt and then tap the bolt with a hammer to spread the alternator mount flanges. Once you open those up a little you can rotate it. Once you rotate it to the point that the mount flanges are clear of their mating surfaces you can pull it out.
Try this link for more detail on how to remove the alt. Read it all the way through and you should pick up some ideas of how to remove it. It took me about 2 hours to remove when I did it to change the voltage regulator.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was beginning to think the link I posted was for a Mk1 and perhaps something changed for Mk2's.
I will check out the Renntech link in a bit
