Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
It turned out to be the stiffener for the headliner, which had come unclipped on one side.
Leading evidence: 'stiffener' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'stiffener' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run last year and never even needed' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Suspected cause
Probably a bigger issue is the e-gas lag, which can be improved for about $300.

We went on an 80 mile mountain run last year and never even needed to put it into manual.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.
Rennlist: 1 discussions
0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 1 adjusted by outcome qualification.
0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Test drove a 996 Tip today. It is a great little car. 2001, speed yellow, one owner, 22k miles.
The sunroof rattled like crazy over the passenger rear seat. Sounds like a loose screw. In the old 911's there was a zipper in the headliner to fix such things. How do you fix it on a 996?
Also, bash me all you want on the tip, but it allows me to get a 996 as the wife can drive it too. Personally, I was suprised at the response of the tranny. It drove great.
Aside from it being a slushbox, what other pitfalls are associated with the tip when it comes to maint. and so on?
No bashing please, but your thoughts are appreciated.
My sunroof rattled when open. It turned out to be the stiffener for the headliner, which had come unclipped on one side. When driving, just put your hand loosely on the headliner on about the seam (I think it was about 10 inches behind the sunroof or so). If the rattle goes away, it is the stiffener. Dealer fixed pretty quick.
I have a 2001 C4 with a tip and love it. It is my understanding that there is virtually no maintenance required and the tip has a reputation for being bullet proof.
I regretfully sold my tip a few wks ago... about 87k miles with no tip worries.
I believe the tip to be a nice 'compromise' for an often in traffic daily driver Porsche. And for those of us who conduct alot of biz on our cellphones while driving (handsfree of course and always keeping up with the car ahead). The latest PDK is even way better.
I must say that I did always wish I had a 6speed when spirited opportunities arose. But if a significant other's needs weigh in then you should get the tip vs a Honda just to keep the peace.
No problems with the tip (other than harassment on Rennlist
)
The tips actually experience fewer catastrophic engine problems, and tires may last longer, etc.
Although you can't burn rubber at a stop sign, the tip, although not perfect, does quite well. After a while u learn how to utilize it, and then there are few times where it wouldn't be just fine (track possibly excepted).
