Very nice and clean, white was always my favorite color on them too (especially on the inside of a clean stripped track car), but never got to own one in white.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 2Original post

Sweet, good job Chad. You've come a long way in a relatively short time doing things yourself. Thanks for the update -- that's going to be a fun ride!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Too heavy. By my calculations, the car now weighs in at around 2482# C.

POST 5Original post

Can you make it down to around 2100 or is that the lightest the car can be?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am pretty sure I could, but with non-streetable items. If I did the following perhaps maybe: - CF hood -CF front & rear bumpers - CF dash - Lexan windows / hatch - LTW wheels - LTW flywheel - LTW exhaust - 1 seat more? C. C.

POST 7Original post

Chad, Just my opinion but don't cut out the bumper supports that seems dangerous. Looks Great !

Happy New Year Chad! Excellent looking beast you have there.

POST 14Original post

I don't think anything looks as good in white as a 944. Beautiful.

True, but your speed yellow with a MKI aerokit is sick..... Nice, clean car Chad...

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks dudes! Tires come in soon, and a couple last minute parts I forgot. Then...off to the cage shop. C.

POST 17Original post

The 944 looks awesome! Congratulations on your progress! Bob

POST 18Original post

Very nice work. Car looks great. Post some pics of the cage once you get it back.

POST 19Original post

looks great!... youll have to give us the progress report when she comes back from the shop.... track vids would be nice

POST 20Original post

Those things can be so much fun on track. Very nice and clean, white was always my favorite color on them too (especially on the inside of a clean stripped track car), but never got to own one in white. Good luck with it.

POST 21Original post

Chad, the car looks fantastic. It looks very clean inside and out. I bet it will be a fun track toy. Nice job. I am currently looking for a first car project to do with my (soon to be) 16 year old son. We are looking at E36 M3s and 944s. Any recommendations for one that he can enjoy at the track while I'm playing with my 996?

POST 22Original post

Having owned 7 944 turbos (8 if you count one that I bought back for 9 days to do a track event with), and 4 e36 M3 sedans, amongst other BMWs and Porsches (and tracking every one), as well as working at shops that specialize in them, I would say unequivocally M3. Unless you really want a project that won't end and cost a lot more... I would try to sell you on mine, but it's not really a project, and it's on the east coast (though I am only asking $7500). I'd imagine you can find one for less if it needs a bit of work. With the M3, I'd suggest 96 and up. I don't like coupes, but that's personal. Anyway, if I haven't convinced you to go with an e36 M3, at least buy a 944 turbo that's not an 86. 88S or 89 highly preferred. LSD is rare but very useful. Standard on the 88S and 89 turbos. Feel free to ask any questions about either car.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6198755

I would recommend a 944 N/A. An E36 M3 is a bit too much power, IMO. They can be easily tuned to around 300hp. The 944 will teach momentum. C.

POST 24Original post

That's a good point, I sort of assumed 944 Turbo b/c it's much better matched w/the e36 M3 performance wise. If you go 944 and want momentum, you have to stay with the 8 valve head and non turbo. The S2s are quite a bit faster and especially in stock form more reliable and just as fast as a 944 turbo. Anyway I would avoid an S (early 16 valve). The comparable BMW would be the 325i, but I think the 944 would be a cooler project.

POST 25Original post

Don't forget about the 924S, same engine as the 944, though I think it's slightly detuned. Bonus, there is no market for them, so you can pick one up in pretty good shape for almost nothing, and since it's so cheap it won't hurt too badly when your son wrecks it. A lot of people say that the 924 is a more nimble and active car than the 944 as well, and at least I always enjoyed mine--had larger rubber (225/45-15) at each corner so it gave the car rather neutral handling with easily controlled oversteer. Lots of fun and I wish I still had one to make a track rat out of it.

POST 26Original post

Nice looking 944. I too want to pick one up again. it has been almost 2 years without one for me.

POST 27Original post

congrats...what wheel/tire combo are you going with?

Looks good Chad!! Keep the reports/pics coming....
