What I really liked about it was the fact that the center is hollow to allow for LESS WEIGHT!
Leading evidence: 'fact' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'fact' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use passenger holder as it is easy' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

When I am by myself I just use the passenger holder as it is easy to get to.

I'm not sure why this thread has turned into a discusion about using the stereo...anyway I think you came up with a fairly nice, simple mod.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well I got the parts and am ready to tackle dual cupholders for my 1999 C2 Cab.
I have attached pictures of parts below. I will post pictures when I am done.

Kris...
Where did you buy it? How much...It sort of reminds me of the M/Benz aftermarket version from a few years back that bolts to the door panel from the back side.
Thx...
Jim
I purchased the cupholder off of E-bay. I will hold almost any size beverage very securely.
I did purchase the "bracket" from home depot. Little steep on the price, almost $1.00. What I really liked about it was the fact that the center is hollow to allow for LESS WEIGHT!
I actually finished the product today, but did not get a chance to post pics. They are the best I have seen as a mod and I really don't like the kit you can get that mounts above the radio. Aside from the fact it is right above the radio, they will also only hold a 12oz can.
I will post some pics of the completed project tomorrow.
Kris
Jim,
Here is a link to the Ebay sellers web site that I purchased the cup holders from.

The one I put on the passenger side was very easy, the drivers side required "fabrication" of a bracket to hold it. They work great, I will post some pictures of the locations and the bracket I made tonight.
Kris
Here are the pictures for the driver side. I bent the bracket and then attached it to the two holes on the driver side seat frame. I bent it so there is about 1/4 inch clearance when the seat is lowered all the way down. The drink will sit between your legs while driving, not too bad to get to. When I am by myself I just use the passenger holder as it is easy to get to. The pictures show the bracket after I bent it and painted it, the cupholder attached to the bracket, the holes in the bottom of the seat and the cupholder installed.
The passenger one was much easier as I just removed the carpeted piece on the side of the console and attached the cup holder directly to it. When folded up it does not interfere with the operation of the seat when sliding it forward.
I have taken some pretty fast corners with a 32oz cup in each one with no mishaps. I will have to give the 44oz'r a try and report back.
Either one can easily be removed.
Kris
I would definitely consider the passenger cupholder mod if even if I already had the factory cupholder above the radio. Those do not hold to many types of cups and if there is a spill, who know where it ends up.
I use the passenger one most of the time as I am usually driving by myself and it is more convenience to get to. It is literally a 10 minute mod consisting of un-clipping the carpeted piece on the console, attaching the cuphold with a couple of black sheet metal type screws (you will need to drill a pilot hole in the capeted piece for the screws) and snapping the piece back in place. (I believe the cupholders even came with the screws.) If you don't like it, simply take the screws out to remove the cupholder and you are out roughly $20 for the cupholder and 10 minutes of your time. Since the screws go into where the carpet is, you will never see the pilot holes when the screws are revomed. I know this because I had to move the cupholder once so it did not interfere with sliding the passenger seat all the way forward.
Kris
IMO (just my opinion). Call me a sports car purist. I barely, in fact hardly ever, even listen to my radio much less need a cupholder. However, I think I may be in the minority.
For me...I love the sound of the car, and me blasting down the highway. That is all I need.
Chad
I have not turned on the radio since day one.... As a matter of fact I didn't know that it turned on until after a couple of weeks of driving
....
I then had to make a call to get the radio code.....

I'm not sure why this thread has turned into a discusion about using the stereo...anyway I think you came up with a fairly nice, simple mod. Thanks for posting the info. I probably will not do it myself as I'm pretty much lame with DIY stuff, afterall I'm a statistician. But thanks just the same.
