I picked 18's for the ride, but I want the wheel well filled a little more.

They have installed the H&R setup on many cars (does anyone have any comments on their service?), and it is the "lowering" method they're recommending.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've searched the forums and read extensively about H&R Coilovers (street version). A few years ago, there were some threads about problems w/this setup, where it was too low, and a lot of finger-pointing went on between vendors, and installers. It's now a few years later, and I'm interested in lowering my '03 C4S, mostly for cosmetic reasons. I'm about to mount new HRE 18" wheels. I picked 18's for the ride, but I want the wheel well filled a little more. I'm getting the wheels @ Wheel Boutique in Miami, because I'll be down there on business, and they'll give me a reasonable trade for my wheels. They have installed the H&R setup on many cars (does anyone have any comments on their service?), and it is the "lowering" method they're recommending. Before I go making this investment, I'd sure like some comments from the Rennlist crowd. Also, has anyone prepped a scraped front spoiler for paint, or is it better to just get a new one?

POST 2Original post

Depends what are your goals. If you're not looking to track the car and just want to lower then I suggest get lowering springs like H&R or ROW springs. They will work fine with the stock shocks as they are sport setting from the factory. The only advantage for a height adjustable coil over set up is that you can adjust the shock rate in the PSS9, or the ride height (H&R and PSS9). These are more enthusist set ups for the weekend warrior wanabe racer. I would get the PSS9 if you are gonna get a whole system because of the adjustable shocks.

POST 3Original post

for your purpose the H&Rs will be just fine. the problem i had/have with lowering springs be it H&R or ROW is that for the effort you get minimal lowering. just my opinion. i preferred a practically slammed ride height and wanted better perfromance for the track so i went with the coilovers. looking back i wish i had gotten the PSS9s instead. one for the shock adjustability and two, for the reportedly unrivaled customer support from bilstein. i have heard that dealing with H&R is a nightmare. with that said, i was told by a bilstein tech that they made the socks for the h&R kit and H&R made the springs for the PSS9s so the quality is just as good. it's only if you have a problem that bilstein will step up and H&R will be like pulling teeth. BTW, did you see the 19" rg5 champion/speedlines on ebay?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I looked at them....for about the same money, I can get the HRE C20's. I'm told the HRE quality is fantastic. What do you think?

POST 5Original post

Have you considered the ROW M030 setup? Lowers the car to a perfect ride height (as Porsche intended) while still leaving enough clearance for real world driving (curbs, driveways, speedbumps). The ride is better than stock and handling improved too. Best of all, your car is all Porsche. Check out www.carenewal.com Rgds,

POST 6Original post

the c20s are nice. quality is awesome, not sure what they weigh but who cares if they are for looks. HREs are definitely BLING. i think the rg5s on ebay give you more bang for your buck. first off they are 19s and are probably lighter too. best of both worlds. the rg5s are a little more conservative looking but still are REALLY nice. last thing, the ebay rg5 come with tires, do the HREs come with a tire package at the same price?

POST 7Original post

HRE C series are a lighter weight racing series of the HRE wheels. They probably will be as light if not lighter than the RG5. The regular HRE like the 540 series are an excellent quality and they do not weigh that much. They are about 25-26 lbs which is about the same as the turbo twist full cast wheels that came standard on the car. The extra pound or two is not gona make that much of a different. Too many of us are too concerned with weight even though we are not that hard core of a driver.

POST 8Original post

I didnt know the ROW kit comes with the just spring option, I thought you had to get the entire kit which consist of shocks and springs.

POST 9Original post

as did i. where can you get the RoW springs by themselves?

POST 10Original post

No you can order the springs by them self at a deal or try AJUSA. The C4S does have a sport suspension and only needs springs. The C2 should have a whole system unless you have a US M030.
