That said, it looks clean but I would not pay that amount unless it was CPO and had more options, but if you can get it for the right price it looks like a nice example.

Suggestion

On the other hand, the window price was substantially higher -- I paid a lot less than the $55k "stupid price" (the inflated prices put on new and used cars in the hope that someone will come in and just buy it without haggling, which happens often enough to make them keep doing it, plus framing the initial negotiation).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone know of a C4S (03/04) with lower miles than this one? I am looking to purchase this month... Here is the car - http://www.globalautosports.com/car/...dan-36493.html

POST 2Original post

Impressive! They really want quite a premium due to the low mileage. To ME it's not worth that much. Don't get me wrong it looks great! However, I like cars a little higher in miles than that. With that few miles I am concerned they may have yet to be discovered mechanical problems. I prefer about 40k-50k for that vintage 911.

POST 3Original post

Too much money and not optioned well... Low mileage is not always good on these cars, do some more research then pull the trigger!

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 8703343

Agreed. low mileage premium + requisite IMS upgrade due to low mileage = 997 money.

POST 5Original post

I recently bought mine (03 C4S) with 28k miles for slightly less than that but it had PSE and some other options I really like. I'll be going for an IMSR at some point but still feel it was worth the premium for low mileage/highly optioned.

POST 6Original post

Not for sale but that's not even low miles compaired. To some around here

POST 7Original post

The price may be fine for you, too easy to post price advice that might be off the mark of what is happening in todays used Porsche market. Low mileage Porsches sometimes command a premium, but under driven examples may have issues related to lack of use. Do a PPI and a thorough test drive and decide whether this is the Porsche you want for the $. GL

POST 9Original post

I'm not sure that mileage is so low as to command a significant premium.

POST 10Original post

18,850, no way. to command a significant premium on a non-collectible car, it needs to be under 5000 miles. even then, i am not sure why pay so much for a 996, and afraid of putting mileage on it.

POST 12Original post

It is low miles for an '03 automobile, but for a Porsche it is not super low. That said, it looks clean but I would not pay that amount unless it was CPO and had more options, but if you can get it for the right price it looks like a nice example.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks guys, the feedback is much appreciated.

POST 15Original post

What about Phil's old car? Is it up to 5,000 miles yet?

POST 16Original post

Those are 2002 Turbo 40k mile prices and bordering 2005 997 prices.

POST 17Original post

Mine cost a bit less than they're asking and I overpaid some based on what I have seen here since then. Clean 2004 C4S with 20k miles, bi-xenon, full leather, heated seats, Bose, PSE, GT3 wheels, CPO. On the other hand, the window price was substantially higher -- I paid a lot less than the $55k "stupid price" (the inflated prices put on new and used cars in the hope that someone will come in and just buy it without haggling, which happens often enough to make them keep doing it, plus framing the initial negotiation). On the other hand, people on Rennlist do keep an eye out for deals, and so think pretty much everything is overpriced. On pricing threads, people who got fantastic deals will be happy to post, while those that overpaid are a lot less likely to advertise it.

POST 18Original post

Agreed, if you're looking at $40k you need to be aware that there are examples of good (but higher mileage) 2001-2001 turbos and early 997s in the low $40s. 40th AE 996's going for under $40k also. Low $50s might even find you a sweet 2004 GT3 (just two months ago there was a 2004 GT3 with 3050 miles for sale, though at $65k asking price). All the things I found out after I bought mine. At least I checked Excellence, NADA, KBB, etc. But should have waited a bit to let it sink in, and been a better negotiator. At least I have no complaints with my car so far (well other than it isn't a turbo or GT3 ) and I didn't overpay by that much (though sales tax hurts).

POST 19Original post

Although the price does seem high, the 996 C4S is listed as the 996 that is most likely to become a classic by UK's Porsche GT magazine - the story is in the same issue as that IMS article that sparked the brawl on the forums over the weekend! Personally, for that price, find a CPO car from a dealer. Miles are one thing, but seals, rubber, plastic, hoses, etc. crack over time, nothing you can do about it.

POST 21Original post

How many miles per year would you put on the car? If you are paying a premium for low miles I assume that you will continue to keep the miles low? I think there are some very desirable and robust Porsches available in that price range. After you put 20,000 or 30,000 miles on the one you noted you would have an ordinary 996 with ordinary resale value. Do you see this 996 as "collectable" or as a special interest car?

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 8703842

Wow you doubled the miles? I can hear Phil calling his shrink now

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 8704867

What he said. Truth be told for the same price I'd rather buy a C4S with 40K on it as opposed to a C4S with 10K on it, all other factors being equal. Cars are meant to be driven, especially Porsches!
