Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I can do it in 5.6 seconds in 3rd gear (no gear changes) my car has about 63,000 km on it roughly 39,000 miles...
Leading evidence: 'Replace ) my car has about 63,000 km' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace ) my car has about 63,000 km' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. I'll try in auto and manual mode 3rd gear no changes, or should i start in 2nd and change once.

are there any other standard tests that use acceleration in a certain gear to gauge the health of a motor?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can we get a few people out there to do the following measurement.... in 3rd gear from 60mph to 100 mph... let's use a stopwatch for this one.... just want to get a sense of how quick the cars should be....
are there any other standard tests that use acceleration in a certain gear to gauge the health of a motor?
cheers
Pete
I guess with reading magazine after magazine with those longterm test things they do 0-60 times and see how it compares when new but I don't think that will measure how healthy the motor is. From majority times should be better at car's prime say 30k miles. Like Ubergeek says mags have those numbers. Have you tried the 60-100 mph in 3rd gear? What was your result so that if neone here can see if they are close. Mind you mite be difficult to have ne takers-it's above the legal speed limit : ). Regards. Mike
I saw your note about acceleration times, and then I remembered that the handbook with the UK spec cars includes a manual acceleration diagram. Roughly, 60-100 is equivalent to 100-167 in kph, and from Porsche's own published results...8 seconds which includes 2 gear changes.
8 seconds is really off the mark... I can do it in 5.6 seconds in 3rd gear (no gear changes) my car has about 63,000 km on it roughly 39,000 miles...
100 mph = 160.9344 (according to Google translator)
so how about the 997... how fast can it do it in 3rd gear... I bet not much faster if at all...
any takers?
I have a 2000 tiptronic. I haven't measured it yet. Any predictions? I'll try in auto and manual mode 3rd gear no changes, or should i start in 2nd and change once. I think that would be faster.
is the tiptronic a 5-speed or 6-speed? if its a 6 speed then stick to 3rd gear... the whole point of staying in one gear is to measure the elasticity of the motor between 60-100 mph and form a basis for comparison to the 996 3.6 and 997 3.6 cars.
