Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I am running pirelli 240 winter sports on some aftermarket 18" rims, does pretty well, but the required spacers to clear the big brakes were a hassle.

I think Tirerack is wrong, however, as someone else on this list did use 17"s for their snow tires.

I also have 18's, had to use spacers to barely clear the big brakes.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I believe so. I guess for snows?
I am running pirelli 240 winter sports on some aftermarket 18" rims, does pretty well, but the required spacers to clear the big brakes were a hassle. The big brakes might also pose a problem with putting 17" rims on it as well.

Bav, I think you're right. I also have 18's, had to use spacers to barely clear the big brakes.
Chris
BTW, it's a whole new beast in the snow with snow tires!
Yeah, Tirerack told me the same thing so I bought the 18s cup 3 wheels and Blizzak tires (the 18"s are very good in the snow BTW). I think Tirerack is wrong, however, as someone else on this list did use 17"s for their snow tires. I think they used different spacers, though. I'd try calling Wheel Enhancement at [phone removed] (

) they seem to know a little more about Porsches than Tirerack.
I have a 2004 C4S Cab with 17" Dunlop Winter M2's, however, you need spacers. 6mm front, 25mm rear. Works like a charm, car rides perfectly in the snow.
Ah, they are not OEM. I wonder if Porsche says no to the 17's because some C4S cars might be equipped with even bigger 350 mm PCCB brakes (optional). They just don't want to take a chance with some people trying, I guess.
Could be. However, I was told about this option from my Porsche dealer. I had these tires/wheels with my 2001 C4. When I sold the C4 I was under the impression that I needed 18" wheels. The dealer talked me out of buying new wheels/tires
and told me the spacers would work fine. He was under the impression it was more marketing for parts sales then anything technical.
This is my 4th winter on 17s on the Turbo......have run 210/240 Pirellis....now Blizzaks...........wheel size is not the issue........it's totally offset and wheel design......for instance, for the 8J Strosek monoblocks that I run in the front....43 offset clears cals no prob.
17s are great in the snow (IMHO).......I run them on the C4Cab also, and did for years on the 993.
I don't think you can go wrong with either........price about the same....... Porsche has high on the 240s this year in their Christoph artical.......I have Dunlop wintersports on the AMG and they take a back seat (IMHO) to either the P or B.
Good luck finding size you want ......as C4S Surgeon mentioned.....tough time to be looking.
Correct, that they are Turbo big reds, and correct that the fronts are usually the challenge for caliper clearance........but again, it just depends on offset and which wheel......even a problem wheel with some spacing gets offset down to clear.
