I havent run into that character driving Porsche's in my world.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

cellular was basically an ad for porsche.. porsche paid nicely to have all the porsche references all over that movie and didn't do a very discreet job of trying to hide that fact...
The Dennis Quaid movie, "In Good Company" has a huge reference to Porsche. In fact one of the characters gets a promotion and walks into a Porsche Dealership to buy a new car. The sales guy explains what the Boxster is then says something to the effect...."however if you have really arrived you want a 911" or some other sales BS. The guy buys a Lapis Blue Cab and it gets wrecked as he pulls out of the dealership. The car drives around with a crunched front for most of the movie.
Ever since I bought the Porsche, I've been more atuned to seeing them in movies. It's amazing how many times a Porsche of one form or another makes cameo appearances. Usually it's in a setting that infers high rollers, money, and/or performance. Most of the time, it's low key. Like a 993 parked on the driveway of a country club, a 996 cab in front of an estate or casino, the good high school jock driving a 944 as opposed to the bad jock driving a Camaro, etc. My wife thinks it's funny when I jump off the sofa and say "There's a Porsche!!"
My nephews try to trick me by saying "there's a Porsche". They laugh their heads off when I go "where!" and there's nothing. When there really is one they just shout out "911" or "Boxster" etc. I've trained them well!
my gf tells me how many porsches shes counted driving around during the day, then proceeds to give me mean looks for causing her to notice with detail so many vehicles on the road. lately its gone from "i saw 7 porsches" to "i saw 4 carreras and 3 boxters" to "there were 2 996's, 1 cayenne, 3 boxters, and a 993 cab"...hehe
this progression over a period of about 10 months
actually porsche paid nothing to put their cars in the movie
in fact, that is porsches policy. and they are very selective about what kind of movies they allow their cars to be in.
I thought Basinger was great in Cellular. She's come a long ways from 9 1/2 weeks, with Mickey Rourke back in the '80s, eh? I guess the Hollywood lifestyle, with personal trainers and personal chefs, has allowed Kim to age very, very nicely!
For some Porsche content, man that Cayenne she drives can really destroy a barn!!
The only problem with Cellular was the dork in the Cab. They made the guy so obnoxious.
I havent run into that character driving Porsche's in my world.
The Cayenne Turbo was nice.
Cabman
I enjoyed "Cellular" thumbs up due to the subject matter but the best P-car movie still has to be "No Mans Land"...with Charlie Sheen and DB Sweeney
Classic line:
"Italian trash, I only steal Porsche's"
I think one of the best Porsche movies of all time -- and a must have for your DVD collection -- is Steve McQueen's
Le Mans
. The race footage of the 917's is great and the storyline, while a bit lame, ties everything together.
In my opinion the best driving movie of all time is Claude Lelouch's
C'etait un Rendezvous
. The whole film is just over 9 minutes long and features an
unknown car
(some say it was a Ferrari 275 GTB but no one knows for sure) and
unknown driver
(some say it was a Formula 1 driver while others say it was the director himself) on a highspeed drive through Paris. You really have to see it. I first saw it as a faded VHS tape when I was a kid. The remastered DVD is awesome.
Cheers,
i think one of the coolest driving vids ever is the 8min vid of some old 80's hill climb car going up pike's peak. forget what its called but definetly kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time!
don't forget Julia Roberts early flick...Mystic Pizza... or John Travolta's (don't remember the name but he was a lawyer involved in a toxic waste case).. and Gone in Sixty seconds - '99 artic silver coupe...1st car stolen - sets the pace for the movie... Top Gun - 356 cab.. ..Paris Hilton's Simple Life (boxster)...
a civil action w/ john travolta. i dunno where it went but ther was a thread with a lonnnng list of every movie we could think of that featured a porsche in it
I ordered the DVD from the company in the UK that bought the rights to the film and did the restoration and remastering. The DVD is great and well worth the price -- even with the British Pound kicking the US Dollar's butt!

FYI, they have another DVD out called
The Cobra Ferrari Wars
. Classic stuff!
Speaking of gone in 60 secs.. I play poker with the owner of eleanor. A greek guy named george.. maybe he will let me take her out for a spin one of these days..
Actually, it's true, Porsche paid nothing to be in the movie. It was part of an article I read in some magazine about the movie Cellular. They were quoted in the article as saying that they were extremely selective about the movies their cars appear in. As I'm sure any company would be of their product.
Nokia also took a huge risk showing their new 6620 phone in the movie. All of the stereotypical problems with cell phones were explored (bad signal, low battery life etc.) and it was really risky to be associated with stuff like that.
The makers of the movie also asked the wireless carriers in the US if they could use one of their stores in a scene involving the purchase of a charger. However, all declined because of the negative nature of the scene.
The makers were also quoted as saying that they re-wrote the scene with the Cayenne after Porsche showed them how tough the SUV was. Initially, the SUV was suppose to just break down a door and get stalled, but they re-wrote the scene so that it basically demolishes the barn.
I know a lot of folks feel Steve McQueen's LeMans movie is the ultimate Porsche movie, but for me it was a different one.
"No Man's Land" was a cheesy movie from the 80's, but the chase scenes with the 911 was the ultimate for me. Up until then, I had always seen 911 cars used in "beauty shots". They drove the crap out of a 911 widebody in this movie. I guess I had more of a connection with "modern" porsches.
