For those who enjoy driving, we recommend 18 inch as the maximum."

However, I will say that in high winds, I HIGHLY recommend the front nose.
Repair manual mentions 2 hours, i would rather be safe

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After much work...the result is VERY nice. The side skirts went on VERY easy. I kept the garage a nice sweaty 75 deg and let the glue take for 12 hours. The PCNA repair manual mentions 2 hours, I would rather be safe. And the result...? They look GREAT!!!
Up next...suspension. Much more to come...stay tuned.
Chad
Dead-eye: Thanks pal...yeah, those flaps are growing on me. Debating...

Chad
chad - what was the deal on those - they come prepainted or did you get them shot before you installed?
oh - and benjamin - if i know chad, he'll have all of your concerns dealt with soon....
Chad,
Looks great!
For God's sake, don't go 19' you'll screw up the handling. Bring on the Sport Design 18's and rear spoiler accompanied with rear flaps.
Ciao,
Johannes E.
I am not letting the cat out of the bag yet. However, you guys will NOT be dissappointed.
And Ben, give me a break with the 19's bit. I am not shooting for bling. A complete waste of $$, IMO. Johannes is correct, 19's mess to much with the handling. My intentions are pure function, while being sleek and fast.
Chad
I'm inclined to agree with Chad: 19" are a bit of overkill and aren't as practical.
18" Turbo Twists / Sport Designs are plenty. It's a Porsche--it is supposed to HANDLE.
The pieces you are referring to are the GT side trims, I had them on my Cab with the GT3 front bumper and side skirts and they complete the lower aero lines nicely.
Oh...and about the 19's, here's a quote from Excellence Mag:
"...9ff avoids using 19 inch wheels on the 996, but it's not alone. Manthey Motors has chosen a similiar road and Porsche itself has freely admitted that a
significant reason for the 997's suspension redesign was to allow for the use of 19's.
...19 inch wheels make look good, bu they ruin the steering feel and handling of the car... ...[yes] you get more mechanical grip with the 19 inch tires, but they desensitise the driving experience, spoil the ride, and increase bump-steer. For those who enjoy driving, we recommend 18 inch as the maximum."
-Quote from Excellence's "Jet Blue" article on the 9ff GTC 3.4 Clubsport.
Now my take. 19's are for bling. Period. End of story. They are not for use on my car. I am developing the ultimate "Clubsport". Light, fast, and handles like a housefly.
That is all.
cheers,
Chad
Yeah.. people say not to get the front spoiler with out adding a rear spoiler. But it's only for speeds over 130 I think. Normal driving wouldn't be affected.
I could agree with that. However, I will say that in high winds, I HIGHLY recommend the front nose. The OE one had a significant amount of lift on a windy highway. I was quite unsettled by this feeling. Upon placing this on the car, I noticed a much more planted feel.
Not to worry doods. I am working on the back half. Just debating which I want. I REALLY like the mkII GT3 RS rear element. A sweet look that is VERY functional. Light weight too!!
Not to worry. I won't be goin over 130 any time soon.
cheers,
Chad
BTW- If this was really the case, why did PCAG offer the 40th edition with the same setup? No rear spoiler on those. Just an observation.
I haven't gone over 120 with my stock M030 C2. At 120, there is no drama at all (other than fear of apprehension). Aero nose looks good though. How much will I pay for a nose and skirts, painted and installed?
I'll share...
The nose was just dumb luck.
Back when I got the car, I hit a re-tread in the road bringing it home. Luckily, I found a great place to buy Porsche parts from.
http:/www.departstop.com
I claimed the damage and the insurance company paid for $800 of the nose. However, the GT3 nose I got from Departstop was only $950! Great deal. I will be going back to them for other parts as well. Great service and fantastic pricing.
As for the side skirts, I got them from a clearance sale that Brandywine Porsche was having. $549 plus shipping. Another great deal. Keep your eyes out. The deals are floating around out there. And...there are some parts stores that don't have the "rape your Porsche owners" pricing.
Good luck.
Chad
Chad, after seeing your car, go with the taco style MK1 rear spoiler.
BTW, the aerodynamic probs with these cars arise when you add a rear spoiler without a front splitter. Perfectly ok to do the front without rear.
C4S is correct Chad. Front w/o rear is ok, but not rear w/o front. This is why there is a retractable rear spoilerthat extends at about 74mph. I put the GT3 MKI front and sides only on my CAB. Not a big fan of the carrera wing suggested for the CAB and the MKI wing (taco) does not fit on the CAB (cab top cover will hit it).
So far, the rides looking good! Very clean as otheres have suggested. Cograts on the mods so far.
Dell,
I am confused by your statement. When the rear spoiler comes up at 74mph, isn't that in effect "rear w/o front"? Not trying to incite, just want to understand...
leedaav.....the rear spoiler is to provide "extra" downforce on the rear axle. Think of it as assisted downforce and not your primary source of downforce. Not enough to effect you in a way that will not be in balance with the front. Now the larger wings produce much greater downforce (what PAG refers to as optimal) and as such HAVE to be balanced with the greater downforce of the new front spoiler.
