Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Numerous posts found through search recommend the B&M short shift but curious whether a good idea for a daily driver on Atlanta's heavily congested north side (I don't want to always have to think about the shift).

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Bought '04 996 last month w/ 5k on it, 24 year itch finally scratched. I have burnt $100's on previous mods primarily to bikes and am trying to be very disciplined about any mods to this car. Therefore only looking at cheap but effective mods if any
I find the shift throw a little on the long side. Numerous posts found through search recommend the B&M short shift but curious whether a good idea for a daily driver on Atlanta's heavily congested north side (I don't want to always have to think about the shift). I will track the car only once maybe twice a year so that is not the major concern.
Otherwise I love this car - feels like it was machined out of one piece of billet to me (in spite of the occasional creaks).
Feedback much appreciated.
I am running the B&M with the AP shift linkage. The factory shifter feels very sloppy and almost like you have to loosely toss it into gear. The B&M gave the shifting a more firm and percise shift. Its almost like on a bike when you flick it between gears how it engages. Driving in traffic is easier as it is less you have to focus on with the gears.
PM me if you want pics of the install. I got one sitting here to if you want it.
i can't see why a short shifter would be less conducive to bad traffic comfort that the very long stock throws
it could only make every part of the driving experience... better.
