Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

39 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I understand the intake is on the opposite side and the fan needs to be moved.

POST 2Original post

Holly ****.....I was just about to post the exact same question till I saw yours. Thanks and hope we both get some help and answers. I was told it would be difficult to convert and fit an OEM MK II GT3 decklid onto a 996. Are you looking at the same for sale item...LOL Jake

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm looking at the one for sale in MD. Is that the one you're looking at? John

POST 4Original post

Jon Winter - On Pole Motor Sports?? Jon told me it will not fit.....what a coincidence.

POST 5Original post

Comon, with the name like deckman you should know this!!!

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nobody knows the answer to this?

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 4891874

It can be made to fit in three easy steps.... 1) Purchase spoiler 2) Remove engine and replace with GT3 crate motor 3) install spoiler (sorry, at least I bumped the thread.... )

POST 9Original post

Dont purchase the GT3 wing.... purchase the aerokit for the carrera... This should have the intake in the right place

POST 11Original post

What is going on here....we need a real answer guys and no smart s'es please. Deckman, PM me... I know a place that sells a good aftermarket GT3 deck wing. We may be able to get a deal if we buy more than one.

POST 12Original post

Its a direct fit as long its OEM. Its "pulg n Play". I got one. The OEM GT3 lid comes with its own harness. make sure the key is out of the ignition the entire time you do this. The fan is moved from the old lid to the OEM GT3 lid in the same cofiguration. I dont remember the position being different. Edit: I stand corrected . Redridge is correct. Below is a pix of Aerokit II OEM lid for an MY02 car. Also, the red one is a full bloded GT3. There is a difference in the fan and air intake positioning.

POST 13Original post

Huh??? We are talking about fiting the OEM GT3 deck lid onto a 996. The fan and air duct is on the opposite side. The fan can be moved but what about the air intake duct?

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 4892285

My car is a MY 2002. This lid I installed is an Porsche OEM aero II rear(GT3). Do you see the fan? It only have one spot for it, and so is the intake. Edit: I stand corrected . Redridge is correct. Below is a pix of Aerokit II OEM lid for an MY02 car. Also, the red one is a full bloded GT3. There is a difference in the fan and air intake positioning.

POST 15Original post

Here's a GT3 car. This is Old Guy's(Paul) red GT3(now replaced with 997 GT3).

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah you'd need to move to a conical filter to make a GT3 lid fit a regular 996. I'm not sure about the fan and if any retrofitting beside just moving it would be required.

POST 17Original post

Ok, I guess mine is a aero II rear lid. Here's again OG's Red GT3 rear lid

POST 18Original post

I'm confused...so you have a 3.6L 996 with an OEM GT3 MkII deck lid?? It is an aftermarket cause the OEM has the fan and intake duct on the opposite side. PM me with you contact phone number. Jake

POST 19Original post

YES, this is Porsche OEM Aero rear Lid/Spoiler. I'll take a picture of the part no stamp on it.

POST 20Original post

996.512.901.02 You should be able to call Eagleday.com or Brandywine porsche with this no and you'll get the right one for the 996 Coupe. I got mine from Eagleday. They've always been good to me and a bunch of of porsche owners here in VA. It comes with the new harness that will not trigger your spoiler light.

POST 21Original post

Well this just ruined my day. I have an OEM GT3 decklid in hand (car's in storage till May) and a blade is on its way... I'm depressed. For a conical filter... any suggested manufacturers? How about a swap with a stock GT3 airbox?

POST 22Original post

Should have done your research. Did the seller not ask what 996 P Car you have?

POST 23Original post

Yup... my bad for not investigating further. The Rennlist member who sold it to me knew I had an '02 C2 and said it would fit. At this point he's not returning my emails or pms.

POST 24Original post

You should share his name with the rest and put him on the seller's black list....LOL

POST 25Original post

I thought we had an unspoken agreement here about having 'satisfaction gurantee' to fellow members! I sold a lot of items here and I always tell the buyer not to send me the payment until they tell me they like item, or they could ship it back to me. I trusted every member without payment first. I shipped items without asking for payment! Shame on whoever this member is if he misinformed you and wont take it back. If I was him I'd take it back but you pay the shipping.

POST 26Original post

Mike, you are a dime a dozen. Wish all seller and buyers have the same integrity...it will make online transactions so much more pleasent. If you have anything to sell, please let me know. Jake

Jake, I don't think that first sentence came out quite as you'd meant The rest of the message get's your sentements accross nicely and I agree 100%

POST 28Original post

so doesn't porsche offer a carrera aerokit wing that is the same look as the oem gt3 wing, but perhaps it's got all the wiring/fan locations in the "right" side? cuz i know you can get a carrera with the mk2 gt3 aerokit much like the mk1 from the factory

POST 30Original post

Lexrst, After market cold air kits sucks air from the inside of the engine bay, so a compromise could be just removing your stock air box upper most channel and just let in breath in air from the inside of the engine bay. The bottom of the airbox also have holes anyways that takes air from the engine bay anyway.

Deckman, what did you expect, he's CANADIAN! Jake, I'm kidding! Just trying to have a little fun. My wife is always screwing common phrases up. Years ago, we were bantering back and forth with some good natured finger pointing and she finally said "Well, look who's calling the who, who!" I looked at her and said "Did you mean... look at the pot calling the kettle black?" Her reply was, "Well, you knew what I meant!" I still laugh at that one every time I think about it.

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nothing against our friends from the 51st state! I spend a lot of time in Canada, my company is based in Ottawa.

POST 35Original post

Update on my issue... I did a search on the member who sold me the GT3 decklid. He's an active member, but hasn't posted in three weeks, when I sent him my first email with other concerns about the decklid. So said member may be MIA and not have received my emails yet. He was very friendly and an active member, so I'm holding out hope that this will be resolved to everyone's satisfaction. Joe

POST 36Original post

Good Luck...he may be away for the holidays. Hope you get it resolved or list it on eBay.

POST 37Original post

Lerxst, I think you are doing the right thing. Keep trying and give him a chance to get back to you with PMs. If he never responds, then lambaste him in the public forum. While I do think Mike is correct about the unwritten rule of Rennlist (I have sold stuff here in a similar mannor) I also think we should give each other the benifit of the doubt relating to issues.

POST 38Original post

I also always send the item and ask them to inspect and pay after they are satisfied. Or just return it. I feel better that way. Sure, you could be taken advantage of but it shouldn't happen here.

POST 39Original post

Here's my solution to fitting a GT3 decklid on my C2 http://shop.fvd.de/?VID=502533&VCD=1...e&CarYear=2002 It looks like the plate sits on top of the lower half of the airbox. I will be cutting off the snorkel, removing the stock filter, and closing off the hole where the snorkel met the airbox. The ducting from the decklid is directed at the filter. I was wanting to have a "stock look" and install a stock GT3 airbox. If the pipe didn't fit between the airbox and throttle body, I thought I could have something fabricated fairly easily. However, looking at the pics, I don't think the oil filler pipe could be easily rerouted. By the time you buy the airbox and do all of the modifications, you're probably approaching the cost of the aftermarket solution anyways. A bit of a nuisance, but for the price of a GT3 decklid & wing (one currently posted in classifieds for $1000), a $50 wiring harness, and a $500 intake, you're far ahead of the ~$3700 price at Suncoast. Unfortunately I won't get to test this theory for another 4 months, when I get my car out of storage.
