Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have no idea about oil separator but the compression test being 3 hours sounds more like a lube job to me.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can anyone tell me how much time or labor cost is appropriate for the following jobs?
Some of you might have had similar stuff done on your cars.
If you know how much the parts cost, that would help also.
1. Air/Oil Separator replacement (I was quoted 8-9 hrs, it's a Tip, so requires an extra hr)
2. Oil filler hose replacement
3. Compression test - (I was quoted 3 hrs)
4. Both PCV valves (?)
Together with an oil service, I was given an estimate of about $2500 with tax included.
My air/oil separator was replaced without engine removal and was done in less than 1 hour. 8-9 hours is a complete ripoff. I'd be happy to post a copy of my invoice if you like. Removing the left intake makes access to the separator easier.
1 hour labor $85
Oil Separator (996 107 023 54) $105.14
Total $190.14
Wow, that is the first I've heard of the AOS being done in an hour!
I know 8-9 hrs does sound hard to believe, that's why I'm asking here first, but I've heard from a few DIY guys who also said they did theirs in about that 7-8 hr time frame. Some said it took them 5 hrs.
My Indy charges $93/hr. I know he can be a little expensive, but he's good and thorough, and does a good job. The good thing is I get to walk around the shop and my car, and talk to him instead of to a service advisor!
I'm just trying to do my homework and arm myself with some ammo before I confront him tomorrow with questions about the work to be done, and the labor cost for everything.
Thanks ALL!
Sure, 1 hr may be on the "low" said but it was easily done within that hour. I was hanging around the shop as well and know it doesn't take much longer than that.

It is pretty standard on most PPI's and it should be like 1 hour max.
Actually if you verify my p/n you will see that it is the AOS. And yes, Gary was the best mechanic! Like I said, if you know what you are doing and have done it before it can be done in an hour. If not there is a little work to do. All depends on who is doing the work.
This is why I loved my mechanic....he ONLY charged what it took him and if it took him LONGER than book rate he defaulted back to book rate. FYI.....Carl's Place in Las Vegas.
