Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

From my 986 experiences I know that any performance gains claimed by most manufactures are probably wiped out by the ECU that eventually adjusts (I've heard less than 500 miles) for any changes made to the air filter, intake, or exhaust.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The benefit of being a 986S owner was that I never had to see the engine. Looking at this however makes me want to do something! After a bit of research I checked out the Fabspeed 996 Cold Air Kit ($345 w/ BMC). From my 986 experiences I know that any performance gains claimed by most manufactures are probably wiped out by the ECU that eventually adjusts (I've heard less than 500 miles) for any changes made to the air filter, intake, or exhaust. However, I would get a slightly better looking engine compartment and certainly a better induction sound! Further, I am skeptical of the so called smoother inside of the intake hose. Why, because I know some of tech guys at Injen at they claim that sometimes you need to keep the ridges inside the intake hose to make power and keep the ECU light from coming on. My mods are about to begin. Clear side markers are already installed, RoW springs are ordered and being delivered next week! I will try to put as much negative camber as reasonable because I want my 996 to handle like my 986S did. After this, hopefully PSE. Any feedback, and better yet first hand experiences would be appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Well looking at pics of the new air intake box for the incoming 997 looks mity nice. Wonder if that will fit in our 996's? With respect to the Fabspeed intake it does have nice sound to it(above 4k rpm) but one thing to know is that red hose will rub on rear lid and make a mark on hose not that nething will happen but just to let you know. Regards. Mike

Elton, I've enjoyed your posts on PPBB and must admit I've been looking at the 40th Anniversary too. I look forward to hearing about your experience with the car. Great choice! Oh yeah, and I agree with you about the engines. At least with the 911, you don't have to undertake a 5-step process to see it.
