Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Quick RMS Question
Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

at 33333 kms, should i start putting $$ away for a new rms...it seems the car has been running flawlessly till now is the rms something that every 996 HAS to go thru or is it just a popular flaw? p.s. whats the longest a 99 has gone without having the RMS replaced

POST 2Original post

this was posted before and IIRC, one owner had over 90K miles (145Kmiles) in his 99 w/o RMS at all. Remeber people post only if their have RMS issues. Those who dont have RMS issues won't post telling us "look i dont have RMS issues". Thx.

POST 3Original post

You can put money away for a clutch which you know you will need at some time. If the RMS fails put in a new clutch at that time as well. Not much extra cost because all labor already done. If it doesn't fail by the time you need a clucth it probably never will. My RMS was relplaced at 6k miles and I had them put new clutch disk in then. I have 30k miles no problems and not worrying about it.

POST 4Original post

I don't think RMS was an issue with the '99s. I had a '99 cab with 55k miles and no RMS problem when I traded it it for an '02 cab. The '02 has had two RMS replacements at 15k and 45k miles. If not covered by warranty, the repair is about US$800, according to my dealer.
