Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I need to replace my tires on my 1999 C4 Coupe. I live in Chicago and plan to drive in the winter. So, instead of separate winter/summer tires, I thought I'd compromise and get a "M+S" tire. I like to push my turns here and there on the street, but I don't drive extermely hard. Am I being cheap and lazy to put these on? I'm considering the Kuhmo ASX and the Pirelli Nero M+S. thanks.

POST 2Original post

I am assuming you have 17" wheels. The Kumho are a budget all season high performance tire. I have only read about them but with a 400 tread wear rating it's worth it rying them out as a research project. I would not however go to a full M+S tire for all year driving. Keep me posted.

POST 3Original post

IMO, AS tires are going to curb your enjoyment in summer and be pretty much useless in a Chicago winter.

POST 4Original post

You'll basically be left with a compromise...the tires will not be great performers in any conditions, but will be adequate all around. I change over the Dunlop Winter Sports and they are amazing in the cold AND the snow...

POST 5Original post

Pass on the all seasons. They are at best as you said a "compromise" and are neither good in the summer nor in the cold/snow of winter. You are much better off (and safer) with separate winter and summer tires if you drive all year round.

POST 6Original post

I recently put Kumho Ecsta ASX's on my 2002 C2 coupe. I had wanted something that would last longer than what I have used before (Pirelli P Zero Rosso Asimmetrico's and Continental Sport Contact 2's) and that would be quieter too. I'm pretty happy with my purchase. All tires are a compromise. b-man
