Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

But they did use words like,"our test drive did not convince us that the system is desirable" and "considering that you must take PASM in order to get the 3.8-liter engine, the choice of cars-cost aside-does not seem quite so clear-cut."

Suggestion
I could not believe that PASM could be better than a standard suspension (or coilovers) for track use, especially since F1 played with this years ago, and then abandoned it.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

F1 didn't abandon active suspensions because they didn't work.
I find Autoweek pretty good overall at being knowledgable, objective and reasonable sports car enthusiasts. They loved the 997S in every way except for the PASM. It was in today's section of autoweek.com.
Just FYI.
I have to admit I was shocked when I read that the 997 was going to have PASM. I could not believe that PASM could be better than a standard suspension (or coilovers) for track use, especially since F1 played with this years ago, and then abandoned it.
Then I read that a PASM equipped car is 5 seconds faster around the Ring. OK, those P engineers know what they are doing!
Then I get to thinking that this is a way for Porsche to make more money per car, plus they get to please the poseurs with the "comfort" mode, therefore selling more cars too!
Personally, I am really enjoying my new 40th 911 996 and have no regrets. I wouldn't take the 997 over it under no circumstances. The 997S is another story, but for significantly more money, I wouldn't buy one now.
F1 didn't abandon active suspensions because they didn't work. Active suspension were banned in F1 by the FIA because they DID work. The cars were getting too fast and it took out too much of the driver input (similar to the current argument surrounding traction control).
Thanks for correcting me. Obviously I had to do some research to see why my memory is going bad, besides my age.
For those who want to read more about it, read the Lotus section at the end of this link:
autozine.kyul.net/technical_school/suspension/tech_suspension3.htm
Perhaps the car ended up with PASM since Porsche already had it from the Cayenne, like the 997's environmental control system, from the Cayenne also....well actually from Audi/VW.
I like PASM on a Cayenne, I wouldn't want it on a 911.
Wait for the 998 or E2 and then (maybe) you'll get a true active suspension.
did we read the same thing? the writer states that they'd like to see a setting somewhere between normal and sport. they found sport to be too stiff or"skittish" as he puts it--it sounds like my kind of car. i don't think he was dissing it--and they are scribes (charlatans?) after all.
We read the same thing. As you can see from a later post of mine, they felt the Sport setting was too stiff and the Normal setting was too soft.
But they did use words like,"our test drive did not convince us that the system is desirable" and "considering that you must take PASM in order to get the 3.8-liter engine, the choice of cars-cost aside-does not seem quite so clear-cut."
That last statement tells me that even though they loved the 3.8 liter engine it is not a clear cut choice over the base car strictly because of the PASM.
At least that is how I read it.
