As programmatore said, you can't change to clear on the old style lights (unless they are litronics) because the housing is yellow, but, it really is easy to change, just a little teadious.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, You guys must have seen some of my recent posts for getting bumper ideas and also looking for clear lights. Well project done and done well. I thought out the whole thing in photoshop and was hoping it'd be close. I was totally blown away when I saw the finished results !! I still think it looks a lot better in person (I suck at shooting cars). BTW, I'll be getting C4S mufflers modded with a bypass pipe sometime this week. Sweet ! Some pictures.

POST 2Original post

Nice, now it needs some 'beef' on the sides and tail. Consider flared rocker panels and something meaty on the back end too.

POST 3Original post

Nice job! Which bumper did you end up with? MA Shaw? It looks good. The chin spoiler is a really nice touch. I agree with Eric -- you need to get the Aerokit MK-II sideskirts to balance out the aggressive front bumper.

POST 4Original post

Nice front... and glad the headlights worked out for you. Now lower that baby!!

POST 6Original post

What's going on with all that air restriction (mesh) in the openings???

POST 7Original post

I have got to disagree with eric on this. Add beef and it looks like a turbo wannabe. Like this is just looks...sinister

POST 8Original post

It needs to be more balance in the back and sides.

POST 9Original post

I got the same problem (the beefing up the sides)...but don't know what to buy!!! I have a turbo front and rear bumper and don't really like most side rocker panel (sideskirts..or whatever you call them) I like the C4S and Turbo ones....but they come with the P....anybody any suggestions??

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think I just might add some side skirts. I'm letting this look sink in a bit. And if I do go for the skirts, I think they'll be more conservative than radical. I'm already feeling that I should balance it on the sides ... About the rear, I didn't want to go overboard with the rear spoilers and stuff. Otherwise, as someone said, it'd look too turbo wannabe-ish. And honestly, I love/prefer the more elegant and simpler curves of the regular C2/C2S/C4/C4S. The Turbo and GT2/3s have a much more "pushy" feel to them. LVDell, yes, those meshes look too restrictive in the photographs (shadows, black paint and black insides). In actual person and in daylight they appear to be quite "breathable". I'll try to take closeup snaps tomorrow. The meshes were an alternative to the turbo grills and it looked cooler in photoshop. Also the bumper is a C4S bumper. I had a guy in LA make this to fit the older style 996's. I love the C4S lower lip ... the turbo is identical but with a completely horizontal lower edge on its lower lip. This is an link to eBay on some of his older work. The guy was quite helpful. But he wasn't correct in telling me the ground clearance was unchanged compared to stock. I was expecting a drop and when I saw the bumper I was even more certain. In the end, it turned out lower than stock. He also has bumpers for the 996 based off the newer 997 GT3. That's what he told me ... I don't know how that'll look !

POST 11Original post

Nice! I'd sure take those amber bulbs out of the headlights and replace them with silver coated ambers. Looks a LOT better and they're still amber when they're blinking. I bought mine here: http://www.silverbulbs.com/ It should be a 7507 but you should check to make sure. -Charles

POST 13Original post

I hate to burst your bulb Charles but it is not that simple. If you look closely at the headlight enclosure you will notice that the amber diffuser is built in to the headlight. You would need to get rid of that diffuser to make it clear. Here's a good write-up on how to do it with a soldering iron: http://hverheyen.vssi-eda.com/box_pics/lights/

POST 14Original post

I've done it and it's one of the best (and cheapest) mods I've ever done. Of course after that you'll feel the urge to get a silver hood crest Thorsten

POST 15Original post

nice job on the bumper --- I wouldnt worry about it looking like a turbo .... the std 996s with the turbo look bumper, side skirst, and a tail seem to have more of an aero kit look .... Unless of course you plan on adding the turbo badge .... then you will be an outcast!!!!! Out of curiousity, whu did you go with the mesh over the grills?

POST 16Original post

As programmatore said, you can't change to clear on the old style lights (unless they are litronics) because the housing is yellow, but, it really is easy to change, just a little teadious. My friend and I did his boxster and it outcome is amazing. I was going to do the same thing, but, that then I took the plunge on the facelift.

POST 17Original post

im going to disagree with the rest here - if there could only be one other mod i would say wheels! that car is begging for some MY02 5-spokes if on a budget, or something more exotic if not.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks ! And naah ... won't be doing the turbo lookalike thingy. Will be myself ! Good question on the mesh. I actually saw a bunch of photographs which had the regular grill (like more turbos, C4S's) and also a bunch of cars with the mesh too. The meshes looked different and I personally liked that look. They cost roughly the same because even though the mesh is cheaper as a part, it requires some extra preparation work. Plus if I went with the grills I'd have to cut the front bumper rod (the real bumper, the steel horizontal frame behind the plastic bumper) by 1" on either ends. But the decision was based mostly on the mesh look.
