Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just weighed my 02 and it weighs in at a portly 3275 with a full tank and no driver. On an empty tank that would put it at about 3175.

POST 2Original post

how do you weigh your car ... make a wrong turn into an interstate trucker weigh station?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Any good alignment shop should have a set of scales.

POST 6Original post

WARNING: Obscure movie reference "Mommy's little piggie!" Besides, compared to my wife's Expedition, the C2 is a lightweight. Get a Caterham if you're looking for light...

POST 7Original post

That's not that heavy. I believe manufactorer's weight is dry weight without any fluids etc. If you weight any car on an actual scale, you'll find it's close to 100 lbs more than dry weight especially since cars come with options added.

POST 8Original post

Some of the moving companies have vehicle scales at their yard that you can get your car weighed for a small fee - about $10-$15.

POST 9Original post

My car always weights more around the 27th of every month, it gets bloated.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

With the 993 I had to add almost 100 pounds to be legal. With my RSA I needed 80 pounds.

POST 11Original post

Alan, That's 365 lbs to remove,...good, now you have the excuse to make the 996 look like a real race car, start ripping it apart . I am pretty sure you knew you had to do this though before you bought it, right? Any how, curious whether it's the stock weight or have you installed the roll cage, fire extinguisher etc yet. The racing seats and removing the rear seats will be a good start, along with the spare if you have'nt done so. I know your 993 is street legal, wonder whether you are planning to do the same here. Either way I am very curious what your sequence of weight reduction be?

POST 12Original post

Holy smoke, jeeva. Are you considering racing your car???

POST 13Original post

Excellent idea! Jeeva, see you next year at Mid-Ohio?

POST 14Original post

NO, NO ,NO....I WISH, I don't even know when my next DE will be, booohooooohoooo, But no harm in dreaming right ?, besides who said a little weight reduction is'nt bad for DE's.

POST 15Original post

Excuse my ignorance, what is considered 'light' for a 996?

POST 16Original post

I guess as a low water mark you could look at the newest 996 cup cars which wiegh around 2550. That is with carbon doors, hood, etc, no interior, blah, blah. My race car weighs 2830 with a cage and all the steel body parts but without exhaust. I think you could create a very nice streetable 996 with lots of CF and only the basic creature comforts at around 2900. Maybe less if you are willing to give up stuff like carpet in the trunk, tools, amp, etc. I'm pretty sure the lightest you could drive one off the showroom floor would be around 3000 to 3050 lbs. Jim

POST 17Original post

For a reference point, my stock 2001 C4 with spare and full fuel tank weighed in at 3260 lbs.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In it's current form my car has the Bose stuff, full leather, memory seats and heavy stock wheels and tires. Ditch the seats, spare and tools add a set of Forgelines with Hoosiers and I can see a 75 - 85 pound weigth loss. Change out the mufflers and maybe another 15 pounds. So 100 is possible without a great deal of trouble. Of course the gas amounts to around 100 pounds. Dry the car could see 3075. Hey this isn't so bad. I'm only 10 pounds over the legal weight of my 993 in D and this thing has way more go. I think I'll go drink a beer
