as you can see from the pic, i've already disconnected all pipes from coolant tank.
Leading evidence: 'Disconnect pipes' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean engine bay' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

When I replaced my coolant tank, I had to lower the engine an inch or two to get it in.

After I have the jack stands in place, I use the same position to support the engine when I lower it.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

the only way i can put in is lay it down, but then i can't turn it around when it's in.
it's such an interesting project!. now i thinking about this damn tank in my mind even in shower!
Some years you have to drop engine slightly to achive the room necessary for instalation.

thats pretty funny!
I think you might have to lower the motor (2 nuts and a jack) really easy, gains a huge amount of space -
Q: how did you get it out?
When I replaced my coolant tank, I had to lower the engine an inch or two to get it in. It was no big deal, put a jack under the ending, remove the 2 motor mount bolts, and very slowly lower the engine until you can get the tank in. Then just the engine back up and reinstall the motor mount bolts.
Yes, put the car up on jackstands then support the engine with your jack, remove the motor mount bolts, and slowly lower the engine just enough to get the tank in.
If you are unsure, you should seek professional help.
My Porsche is a 99 MY . In this pic did you cut off the plastic 'bracket', I did and it seemed to help me reinstalling the coolant tank. I did NOT drop my engine, and it took me several frustrating attempts to get the new tank in, but I finally did. That is a pic of one of the fuel lines and I disconnected them as suggested in the tech write up.GL
i cut the bracket off already.
problem is, from 2001&up, the bigger tank was used.
when getting it out, i cut off the small Y pipe on the side, i guess i have to lower the engine to get it in.
Even with the engine lowered I had a bitch if a time. In the end I unbolted the plastic cap on the left of the engine bay that engages with the top of the tank. With that out of the way I can throw the tank in from across the room. Putting the bolts back in for that part isn't easy but it's better than fooling with the tank.
oe,
thanks for the pic.
have some questions:
on your 3rd pic, is that where you jack up your car? or is it where you support the engine when dropping it?
what is 2nd pic? the engine mount bolts removed?
also do i need to dis-connect any other things before i lower the engine? as you can see from the pic, i've already disconnected all pipes from coolant tank.
my car is 2001, and it does use the longer tank, i ordered the correct part from suncoast.
Some Answers:

When lifting the rear of the car to place the two back jack stands, this is where I lift the car from. After I have the jack stands in place, I use the same position to support the engine when I lower it. In this particular case, I drove the car up on ramps.

Yes, that is looking up from under the engine with the motor mount bolt removed. Prior to this, I had removed the airbox, the secondary air pump, and drained enough of the coolant to empty the tank, and removed the tank hoses and the low coolant sensor cable.
You only want to lower the engine just enough (and very slowly) to get the tank out, and the new one installed.
Make sure you clean any spilled coolant immediately off the paint, as it is corrosive, and if you leave it on you are hosed!
One final comment. There is much controversy about lifting the car from the engine to place the 2 rear floor jacks. I have done it for years with no issues, and many of my professional Porsche mechanic friends have done the same. BUT, these fluid filled motor mounts typically fail between 60 ~ 120K miles, and if your car has that many miles on it and the mounts have not failed yet, there is a chance that they may rupture when you do this. My thinking is that this is good, as they were going to fail anyway, and at least you know about it, and can change them out very easily.
Orient Express' engine and my engine, HMMMM? 11 years of Chicago winters. Someone said mine looked like it was raised off the deck of the Titanic. Now I did clean it up a bit before I put it back in, but that was 2 winters ago. Runs great though. Ask me if I am jealous
