The problem I am having is that it appears that the nut was installed prior to the windshield frame being spot-welded together and I can't see any way to replace it, without cutting up and rewelding the frame.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The metal plate attached to the top of the windshield frame which the mechanized hook grabs and latches to when the top closes is held on with 2 screws, which go into nuts located inside the windshield frame. One of the nuts is cracked on my 99 Cab, which lets the plate (the black metal thing with the 3 lights in it) move around. Has anyone replaced one of the nuts inside the windshield frame? I can't see how to do it without cutting the frame up!! Help!

POST 2Original post

so you have a screw that is stuck and broken? can you remove the plate and see if the broken screw can be pulled out? why do you need to cut the wind shield header?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The screw is not broken - it is loose and will fall out. The problem is with the nut located inside the windshield frame that the screw threads into. The nut is broken - it is split on one side and thus the screw can't be tightened. The problem I am having is that it appears that the nut was installed prior to the windshield frame being spot-welded together and I can't see any way to replace it, without cutting up and rewelding the frame. There doesn't appear to be any access to it at all. The dealer said to take it to a body shop! I was hoping someone here had seen this before and had a fix.
