However, last weekend I adjusted the bolts at the bottom of the doors to angle the glass in enough at the top that the minimum drop clears the seal.

If so, is a regulator easily replaced for a weekend DIY guy?

Suggestion
It really was easy to replace, so if anyone out there is contemplating doing it themselves, just set aside a couple hours in an afternoon, it's not bad at all.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

When I took the old one out, I noticed that part of the plastic blue sleeve had broken off and small pieces of it had worked their way into the main pulley; not good.
The driver window in my coupe is not dropping the typical 1/4" that it should to allow easy opening and closing of the door. The window does drop slightly, about 1/8", but it still hangs up on the window gasket overhang when opening and closing. Other than that, the window works fine. I took it to the dealer to check it out and he says that I need a new window regulator to fix this problem. Overall the cost with parts and labor would be between $600-$650! Does this seem right to you? If so, is a regulator easily replaced for a weekend DIY guy? Finally, how much would the regulator cost from Brandywine/Sunset?ect?
Thanks for any help you can give.

I have the same problem on the passenger side. It drops, but not quite enough. Sometimes it does drop the correct amount. However, last weekend I adjusted the bolts at the bottom of the doors to angle the glass in enough at the top that the minimum drop clears the seal. Doesn't really fix the problem of the regulator drop amount, but until I have the desire to go at the window regulator myself, this works. If that hadn't worked I would be taking the door apart this weekend, heh. The adjustments are underneath the door, inside the plastic caps, I forgot what size socket. Small, maybe 5mm?
I noticed your thread below. After battery is disconnected there are several things that need to be done when reconnected. 1st turn ignition on, and leave in on position, do not press accelerator for one minute. Turn ignition off for 10 seconds. This resets DME. Raise windows to max position then press once to reset auto lowering distance. If you have a Tip you need to run through the gears up and down in manual mode, then auto mode up and down to reset xmission mapping. Reset radio with code, reset clock. The windows won't lower properly if you don't followthe procedure. I don't think I've left anything out, but if I have someone will chime in. As for the light, likely to have been cleared at some point before changing your battery.
I recently had a similair problem with mine. To see if the window switch which tells the window to drop 1/2" is working, remove the door panel (only about a 10 min job - check out this site for help:
http://www.bombaydigital.com/boxster/projects/window/
) and see if the regulator is moving when you pull the handle. If it moves but the window does not, you need a new regulator.
I bought the part from the dealer for $140 and replaced myself in about 1 hour total on a weekend. follow the instruction from the website I listed and it is a piece of cake.
Good luck.
Yeah, I had a few days off last week and I was bored so I ordered a new regulator and put it in. Since it was intermittantly working, I knew it was on borrowed time until I got a new one.
When I took the old one out, I noticed that part of the plastic blue sleeve had broken off and small pieces of it had worked their way into the main pulley; not good. Catastrophic failure was soon approaching. Once that cable comes out of the grooves in the main pulley, you are done. It really was easy to replace, so if anyone out there is contemplating doing it themselves, just set aside a couple hours in an afternoon, it's not bad at all. The links above were helpful. I ordered the part at autopartsworld.com, it was $176 shipped and got here in 2 days.
