Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Last time I got some great deals on Mobil 1, can't find any out there from Autozone, Pep Boys, or Advance. Anyone have a lead on a good cheap source for some Mobil 1 0W-40 out there right now?

POST 2Original post

You may have to call them, but Autozone was having a buy one get one deal on oil just recently. Cheers, DS

POST 3Original post

WalMart I buy it there all the time $6.98 per quart. Then I go to Checker and pick up a K&N oil filter. Everything cost me just about $85 with tax, 10 quarts and a filter.

POST 7Original post

I have met some very awesome car guys that dont touch their cars. They drive them and they understand them and they have someone set it up for them, and they are brilliant! some of them will be in Daytona at the Rolex 24Hr in about a week or so

POST 8Original post

Check out the "Letters to the Editor" in the newest Excellence. One reader indicated that he changes his Mobil 1 0-40 every 3,000 miles and asked a question about running a different weight during summer. Before they gave their advice to run 5-40 year round, they made a not too subtle dig stating that "given the brand and formulation" that a 3K interval was wise due to diminishing levels of ZDDP.

POST 9Original post

Check the Mobil site. I went there and found that they had mail in rebate promo active and it directed me to the retailer. I bought 2 of the jugs and I think they netted out at like $25. Can't remember exact pricing, but it was cheap.

POST 10Original post

Just wanna follow up on the last post I made. I found this link at Mobil and it allows you to have promotion info pushed to you. It also says promos will return in the spring. http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...ss_topics.aspx

Funny how everytime I suggest this Im "idiotic".

well it was certainly surprising to see this printed in THE Porsche enthusiast magazine of choice. With a warning that increased valvetrain wear was a consequence of keeping oils like Mobil 1 in the car for more than 3K miles. Their words not mine... They encouraged the use of boutique brand oils with ZDDP of at least 1200 PPM and discouraged "mass-marketed" oils whose diminishing ZDDP levels have slipped past the radar of most owners. I'd be curious to know if Porsche (on Mobil's prompting) reached out to Excellence after printing that.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This was not a what oil is better thread or what oil do I need thread. I just want to know who has the cheapest deal for Mobil 1 0W-40. I have ran that oil in my BMW and Porsche combined for over 6 years and am happy with it. My local Walmart carries every Mobil 1 weight besides 0W-40 or I would buy the jugs there.

I am in Colorado and gets below zero here. 0W 40 is better for my situation.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nevermind, just found what I was looking for. Autozone Mobil 1, 5 qt jug or 5 singles plus oil filter for $33.99. They never have a filter that will work so they will substitute for an extra qt of Mobil 1. Hope this helps someone due for an oil change soon. Offer is good till Feb.

This is a price thread! My local SAM's Club said they would be happy to start stocking OW-40 & indicated they could offer attractive pricing.

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 10185761

curious if they're lower than WalMart's price of $6.97/quart

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 10156526

I'm glad they did so. It prompted me to take a closer look at even the Castrol Edge 5-40. It's only marginally at the level Excellence was recommending (1,250 -1,350 PPM ZDDP). Once my current stock runs out I'll be moving onto a smaller brand that spends less on money on advertising and more on the actual product. Saving $100 or $200 a year given the issues Excellence points to in increased valvetrain wear from lower ZZDP oils seems really pound foolish.

POST 26Original post

Why are you guys "cheaping" on the oil? Just order the JG and be done with it.

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Glad this thread stayed on track......LOL. Hopefully some guys got a good deal on Mobil 1 out of it though.
