My C4S has been cranking slowly lately, especially in the cold weather we've been having. What's odd is that after driving for a while, it acts as though the battery is almost totally dead. Last night, I stopped for gas after a 30 minute drive. When I tried to restart the car, it would hardly turn over. It sat in my garage last night, and it started up fine today both times I drove it. The dummy volt gauge in the cluster is consistently reading ~13 - 13.5 volts. I wonder if the power output from my alternator is weak or inconsistent, causing a drain on my battery while driving... Thoughts? The battery is only about a year old.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I would confirm the battery health with a real test and voltmeter. Confirm alts health next, then starter. There is also a cable that can cause a problem. But I think I would start with the battery first. Usually the first bad cold snap in Texas will reveal a weak battery. If it is the battery, make sure you replace it with the biggest, baddest, battery you can wedge in there by moving mount bracket all the way to the end. It worked for me.
