My 2000 Cab came script delete, and I love the clean look.

I was saying that in my humble opinion a bunch of stickers placed on a random section of a car's bumper (where nothing previously existed) isn't remotely similar to replacing an existing trim piece that was a part of a car's design (and not on its bumper, btw) with another piece that is essentially the same but for the inscription of a word.

If someone replaced the reflector on the back of a 996 C4S with an identical one with the word "Porsche" ghosted in like the original to which it pays homage, that might not be so bad.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This is an album of my latest P O R S C H E mod. I know it's far from being 'bad ***' as you young dudes would say, but I quite like the effect. The lettering was meant for a 928 but I thought it would go well on my 996. Thoughts please. Better if you put the album on slide show.
There's space on the left and right bumpers for '996' decals!
As other's said, it's a little much. Any one of those by themselves would probably have worked in some way, but all three is a little much.
WAY too much going on back there and frankly, makes the car look cheap. I like the Porsche lettering, though, I think it should be on the engine cover and should be the only badging back there.
I agree, too busy, I saw someone remove the 911 and the carrera and replace it with 991 P O R S C H E and i thought that looked pretty good in black.
maybe someone can dig up pics.
My '99 silver came with rear badge delete from the factory. It had nothing back there. I always thought of my 996 first as a 911 so I put that back there. I liked it! I thought if I ever got a Turbo, I'd remove the chrome
Turbo
script and replace it with
911
. Got the Turbo and did just that. I'm generally one to understate things and feel more is usually less as far personal things.
With that said, I love what you did! If it makes you happy, I'm happy. 100% stock cars as they left the factory are such that they are tolerable to most, truly loved by very few. This excludes special ordered highly optioned cars. Individual customizing enhances the beauty of the car in the eyes of the owner. This will generally decrease its appeal to the broader spectrum and incite greater passion for those liking as well as disliking what was done.
If you're trying to sell a car, keep it stock, otherwise let your imagination go.
It's your car, so you should do what you want.
That being said, I think it's too much. I also think the new branding on the 991 is too much. You don't need "Carrera", and "911" and "Porsche" on the back. It's overkill IMHO.
If someone does not know I am driving a Porsche just by looking at it especially when it has had the same basic shape since 1963 I really don't feel the need to tell them.
Ah well those are all good remarks. I know now I wont see another 996 like it. So dyu reckon that there is too much going on with the 2012 job? Or do you all like jumping on the band wagon? I love it and thats what really matters. Thanks for your honest comments.
I personally don't care for the scripting on the new 991. My 2000 Cab came script delete, and I love the clean look. Echoing a previous comment, the general public knows that you're driving a Porsche 911...why be redundant in advertising that fact? As most on this site would I hope tell you, some may think it's in poor taste, or others may think it looks great. The important thing is if it adds to your enjoyment of your 911...then by all means!
It is your car. If you like it then it is good.
I really don't like the P O R S C H E badge on the back of the new 991. It matches those on the Cayenne and Panamera, and on those it is about corporate branding. Without it the Cayenne would be hard to distinguish from many other SUVs on the market. But I really wonder why Porsche felt the need to 'brand' such an iconic car as the 911.
Surprisingly, according to the local dealer customers can order a 991 'badge delete,' but that will only remover the "Carrera/S" and "911" emblems. It is not possible to factory delete the P O R S C H E badge!
No offense but I've got to agree with the others; choose one badge and take the others off. Having the three of them is waaaaaaaaay too busy looking....... I'd take off the "Carerra" and "Porsche" badges and leave the "911" badge where it is. I have a "911" badge in the same loation on my car and it looks great!
I have a Porsche cap with small letters "Porsche" on the side. I sometimes wonder why I provide free advertising. Same with my Porsche license plate frames.
What dyu mean 'thinks' lol. I bet I am the oldest Porsche driver on this particular forum and that puts me in the 'super duper ice cool league'.. And the oldest scuba diver for that matter and that makes me a member of the "Super duper, high filutin, coolest dude on the planet league".. I had to put the top up today to keep the chicks from swarming me. I have to be careful at my age. I am convinced it was the P O R S C H E mod that attracted them. It certainly wasn't my looks and thats for certain hehe.
Whatever floats your boat, bud. Interesting thing about asking for opinions is that opinions are what you'll probably get.
You should add the sticker price with taxes somewhere on the rear bumper too, then the floozies will really know you're legit.
I think the nicest way to share my opinion is by simply saying that I don't like it on the 991 either. Are you concerned people might not know it's a Porsche? It's your car. If you like it that's all that counts.

Funny how the more things change the more they stay the same, or whatever. Almost ALL of that tail scripting was standard on 911's from 1974 to 1989. The PORSCHE lettering was inside the wall-to-wall reflector and the engine cover had the model designation(s).
It was not uncommon then to order an update kit with that reflector and lettering to put on 911's built prior to 1974. It was THE thing to do back then.
The PORSCHE lettering contined in the reflectors of the 964 and 993 in some models.
When the 996's first came out, the lettering and the reflector disappeared and there were outcry's (from folks who now live on this board) that there was not enough badging on the car with the PORSCHE name. The C4's carried the wall-to-wall reflectors but not the PORSCHE script.
And now the circle is complete.
Hurdi goes RETRO and everyone freaks. LOL!
You just put whatever you want on your car, Hurdi, Bless your heart.
One look at the window in my avatar tells you where I stand on informing the unwashed masses.
Seriously most of the roads in Amish Country are like the one you see on the photo. There are literally thousands of miles of winding country roads with not a cop in sight. I love to drive until I am totally lost then tell the Tomtom to 'Navigate Home'. After she says "finding fastest route' I change it to shortest and I am then sure of miles and miles of country lanes all the way home. Dammit and no one to see my latest P O R S C H E Retro mod .
BTW it's amazing how many people in the States never even heard of a 911 or the name Carrera. A Porsche they heard of yes.. Not so in the UK or Europe where they are quite common. I can't count how many people on garage forecourts have asked me what make my car is. There was nothing on the back to inform them. There is now. 911 and Porsche. I wont be doing anything to the front as the name appears on the hood. Well I don't think so. lol..
Hang in there HurdiMan...if you like it that's all that matters. I like my pumpkins...not going clear. Like my tail down unless I'm going +75. Love Guards Red....not for everybody. Love my cab...LOVE my headlights (very cool). Hate my AOS- just cost me $1K but now I have a new one. LOVE my 996! Love my bourbon which is why I posted this!
Hold on. Are you really comparing this to the subtle or, at least tasteful, "Porsche" logo in the reflectors of older 911s? How is this even remotely similar? It's not. It's entirely different. Those reflectors looked great. They fit naturally into the car's design in a location where there was already a trim piece. If someone replaced the reflector on the back of a 996 C4S with an identical one with the word "Porsche" ghosted in like the original to which it pays homage, that might not be so bad.
In this case, Hurdi basically slapped a big old bumper sticker on his rear bumper and it doesn't naturally fit into the bumper or the car's design (no offense Hurdi, just my opinion).
-Eric
It is 'remotely similar' in that it says PORSCHE in caps, and it's on the rear of the car, just like the logo in the reflectors of older 911s.
For example, something that is truly entirely different could be the name of street you live on, embossed in braille, on the inside of the front trunk.
You can't conduct your argument through false claims.
Not a bumper sticker Eric but individual raised lettering and not 'slapped' on the bumper but very carefully placed into position. Once on cannot be removed. Well lets put it this way, I wont be trying to remove them.
So, a full size billboard on top of the car that simply says Porsche is remotely similar using your logic. I don't think so. But, hey, that's just my opinion. On the older 911s, the word was inserted into an existing trim piece. Remotely similar on a 996 would at least require similar placement between the taillights absent a similar trim piece...not below on the bumper where nothing was ever designed to go. It's not on your bumper either.
It may be remotely similar to the 928 in that the letters we're placed on that car's bumper but that wasn't the comparison given. But, again, just my opinion. I'm not arguing over it.
-Eric
P.S., Hurdi, sorry for mischaracterizing the letters. I knew how they were placed on. I was more referring to the location of their placement.
Remove the P O R S C H E lettering and get those ugly bumperettes painted body colour.
IMO, Porsche should fire the marketting guy who came up with the idea to put P O R S C H E on the back of the 991.
One of really few things I don't like about the 991 and probably my first mod in ten years time when I can afford one...
I don't think you understand what the word remotely means. You claim that a sign on the back of a car that says PORSCHE is not even remotely similar to a sign on the back of a car that says PORSCHE. I give up
I got your point but I still respectfully disagree. I was cranky from not sleeping in 48 hours and probably just should have kept my thoughts to myself but that is not what I was saying.
-Eric
You should add "Horseless Carriage", "Automobile", and "Made in Germany" as well.
Actually, I don't mind the "Porsche", but I think it's a bit too much with everything else. If the other badges were chrome or brushed silver, It might not look as busy. Any one of the three badges would suit my taste.
As a fellow cab owner, I do understand the desire for the "911" badge, as many people think it's a boxster.
How the hell am I supposed to know how many cams and valves that thing has...and what about engine displacement and rated horsepower?
Plus which...it's a cabriolet isn't it ? Why am I having to ask? It's downright rude not to write it out on the back of the car.
Not sure if this is true, but this is what I've noticed with German cars - they usually only have their symbol on the back (i.e. MB star, BMW symbol, VW, just a P-car model name, Audi rings), except for a few exceptions (928, 991, some older VW's that said "Volkswagen", etc.)
If you look around at most other car, they usually have their brand name, perhaps embedded in the logo, but they have the name on the back (i.e. Ford, Infiniti, Honda, etc.)
Just an observation, not sure how true it is.
Eric
Not many of you know of the place name on this photo I bet. This is a village only 20 miles from us in Lancaster County PA .. The most photographed village sign probably in the USA.
