For example my buddies Built N/A E46 M3 puts down 298 WHP on the Dyno, i ran him last friday night 80kmph to 240kmph+ and i had him by 2 cars.

Normally $225 for a run but it's not really the run its the hour and half prep getting it on and off that is takes the time.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yes, Crank
SAEPwr is HP to the wheel
Most dyno's can't measure crank hp. but these Superflow dynos do.
A have a stock intake. I have a evo but I removed the evo intake after I heard people saying it lost them hp. Plus in is an inferoir system and the stock keeps the air being taken in cleaner.
Ok, I was shocked about Crank results but then I relized it wasn't a "dyno jet" to which I'm accustomed.
As far as the Evo, I've had no problem with mine. My throttle body is spotless and I certainly haven't lost HP.
It is hard to keep the proper airflow at a dyno event for our cars.
Oh yeah, tell them to send you the file with your SAE Torque.
I think the max torque is the yellow line. 258
[edit ya torque to the wheel is missing, I'll have to wait to see what I get in the electronic copy]
This setup has proper air flow, very awesome setup.

Yes and the surprise was the stock 997.1 vs the 997.1 S
I think maybe with all my mods that I lost HP and I would have fared better vs the 3.4 as just stock.
I think you loose alot of backpressure with all of the exhaust mods however I'm interested in seeing the tq curve to the wheels to compare to my dyno to be sure. I don't see yellow, I see orange and thought that was crank tq?
Honestly when we were driving home and after you waved bye. My window was partly down and when you got on it, it scared the crap out of me.
Very loud. I imagine you'll end up scaring an old person off the road one day.
Just the Dyno Room itself is $700,000 Plus... There is huge Impeller under the Dyno to Desipate the Heat from the Car and Dyno so there is no Heat Soak during the Run. The Air in the Room is Exchanged every 5.7 Seconds and Fans can Simulate 120kmph Wind. Apprently this is the Only One Of Kind in North America and the Dyno Manfucaturer said this is only kind of Dyno Facility in the World owned by a Private Small Shop
Already done
Women, Kids and old People all Checked off :P
Do you have a dyno baseline before you did all your mods?
I know some of these mods don't necessarily create peak HP but I'd be curious as to which ones are more effective(or less) at broadening the power curve.
I think this fact along with improved throttle response should be able to improve track times where it would be more quantifiable than just a HP number.
No I didn't, I have many of my mods done for years and this dyno didn't exist at that time.
Zookie with a 2 year younger C4S had a dyno done stock but it was a different Dyno. He said he had it was 245 to the wheel. On this Dyno he ran 250 to the wheel. 3 hp more then mine.
After 6 years of tracking, I think I will have to rebuild my motor in the next year or two. Valve guides are all worn out and cylinder #4 looks scored. I'll have to redo the dyno again when it's rebuilt.
I was certainly happy with my 288...but I still want to sound like Zookie ! need that mod !. The education they supplied was also top notch, heard some historical tid bits about 3.4L history, track limitations, which mods / tunes get you the best bang for your buck.. etc.
Thats not True, i had Dyno done before with all the Mods i have now except EVOMSit. That was a Getto Dyno compare to this. Looks like i only gained 1hp with EVOMSit :P
Lols EVOMS Headers, Fabspeed Cats, Tubi Louds with EVOMS CIA
1 HP? Guess I can mark that mod off the list
On a side note, that is the nicest dyno room Ive ever seen! Maybe time to do another dyno session now that my motor is broken in.
ok, guess I misunderstood you then. Guess we don't have a stock dyno reading.
Here is the dyno chart that my fancy IPD plenum was suppose to do.
I am really off (-19 hp) just what the stock pre-plenum figures are.
ipd plenum may move power curve to the right... but you need before and after and same dyno under same conditions...
how much does this shop charge for a dyno run? did you guys run with 94 octane... ?
btw, I was told told 3.6l avg 310 on this dyno. Mods have really made my engine lose hp.
Normally $225 for a run but it's not really the run its the hour and half prep getting it on and off that is takes the time.
Shell 91 for me and I think most of us.
There is no 94 that doesn't contain ethonol. I won't run with any ethonlol unless I know it will get burnt off during the same day and I'm in dire need of gas.
You're lucky on the gas. You can't get gas without ethanol in Texas anymore. We have 93 octane, but the ethanol more than offsets it. I'm working with Kevin at UMW to try to get my motor optimized for 93 octane with 10% ethanol.
Right now I'm getting misfires in the upper RPM ranges in 4th. Upgrading the coil packs, new plugs and o2 sensors this week.
I need to find a dyno event around Houston.
Wow, $225!? When I used to organize dyno events I'd try to get the price down to $50-$60 for two runs. I've never paid more than that at other people's events either but I guess for the premier Dynometer on the Continent you must pay a premium.
yea this is not a $60 Getto Dyno... And we dint pay $225 for the Group Buy... With all the Info that is Provided in the Handbook for your Dyno Session, Plus a DVD with Video and Telematics, plus a no **** talking facility. Includes fully catered Lunch and a complete inspection of the car before dyno run, they even added Coolant and a Liter of Oil in my car on the house. i think $225 is a good fun time
Ya when we did our group event, we got it for $150. They had 4 mechanical workers and 1 administrative worker for 11 cars. It was a very long day.
We pay at least $105 an hour for a mechanic I can't see him doing it for nothing.
Getto Dyno, interesting phrase.
None the less, sounds like a premium experience. Will you guys post the graphs? I see one but it doesn't have the wheel torque numbers.
They did a calibration run to figure the drive train loss and 1 run. The run took probably less then 30 seconds and hour to prep the car and get it on the dyno.
This is the only graph we got and it doesn't map the wheel tq
so which mod do you think is the culprit...? your torque curve looks nice... could it be the x51 headers... those are designed to work with different camshafts etc... 200 cell cats add power... and I can't see it being the IPD Plenum; on the other hand the GIAC flash doesn't do much for a 3.6 as it would for a 3.4.. but your torque curve is broad even in the upper rpm band which is what you want... hp don't mean much... it's the area under the curve
you'll get more power with 94 octane because timing will advance... there is your 10hp right there... maybe more... I ran 100 octane at mosport one track day and it made a difference
+1 what is interesting about the torque curve is that it's as high at 6300 as it is at roughly 4000 rpm... stock 3.6 torque curve don't look like that at all... Greg your car is fast @ mosport ... you got a nice flat like curve
Here are the Pix from the Day

Here is the Orginal Thread for the Dyno Day, some Numbers and Pictures are posted in here
https://rennlist.com/forums/rennlist...y-whos-in.html
Here is my Graph
I think your free flow exhaust is giving you some good torque higher up... I also have looked at the numbers from all cars here... something is wrong... your car is 320HP stock at the crank... and the graph only shows 300 hp...
well broken in cars generate more hp than new so I don't think these dyno runs are accurate at all... or require more explanation... what was your engine temperature when the dyno was performed... was the needle point 90 degrees strait up? (that is where you want it for a dyno run)... also if your car was cold your tranny fluid was cold and that could eat up 20hp in the dyno... lots of variables...
the ECU is smart enough with a GIAC flash to advance timing and take advantage of 100 octane; even 94 octane advances timing noticeably
but then it rises again! which a normal 3.6 doesn't do... probably due to the high flow cats and free flow exhaust which gives him top end... trust me his car is fast @ mosport... something about this dyno is definitely off when no 996 made more than 300 crank horsepower here... hmm
Intresting... im sure the Trans Fluid dint have enought time to Heat up and neither did the Oil, We were the last ones to go...
Think about it Greg the 997 C2S sat all day untill Dyno Run but the 997 C2 just came in and was on the Dyno in like 45 mins...
Something to consider. Are cars where 4 hours cold by the time they were put on the dyno. My diff and trans fluid has never been done, Could explain the dif of 4 hp in drive train loss from yours.
that makes a difference... also what weight of oil used as well... in any case testing under normal operatig temps will give you a more accurate pic of hp.
To be honest even tho this Dyno is State of the Art only thing that really counts is the Actual Power the car produces on the Highway at High Speeds. For example my buddies Built N/A E46 M3 puts down 298 WHP on the Dyno, i ran him last friday night 80kmph to 240kmph+ and i had him by 2 cars. So mine being 250 WHP and his being 50hp more and i still beating him... Its Weird, and he is a very very good driver.
Zook, better gearing is why you gapped him I presume. My buddy has an M3 as well. Our driving experience is almost equal but when we track I gap him quite easily. (yes, even before the 3.8)
Ah OK. None the less having such a dip isn't something good so as far as performance goes someone with the same dyno numbers with a flatter tq curb will leave him in the dust.
Yes but it is a different car which possibly has a greater drivetrain loss, aerodynamics and weight. I think the dyno accuracy is fine.
A friend of mine has a Turbo g35 coupe and he and went to dyno the same day. He had 70 HP more to the wheels than I and I easily followed him to high speeds from zero. Within 2 weeks he went to have more boost programmed in. Lol
?? that curve looks pretty flat to me... the variation of +/- 10 lb/ft from 4000 to 6300 rpm don't mean that much.... the stock engines usually drop off at 5000 rpm
I'm still concerned as to why the real hp on Greg's car didn't show as at least 330-335 hp given his engine is well broken in; is chipped and has hi flow cats etc... something ain't calibrated with that dyno... on the other hand at least you have a baseline.
and the 3.6 is heavier than the 3.4... the 3.4 also responds quite well to mods... the 3.6 not so much... but lets not turn this into a 3.4 vs 3.6 thread... yes the 3.4 has roughly 20 lf/bs less torque across the rpm band
e46 m3 have very aggressive 1,2,3rd gears and final r&p but fall short on 4th and 5th... too steep..... I use to track against a modded M3 (360Hp) and @ mosport after 5C on the strait away when we both hit 4th gear I would easily walk away from him...
