I am looking for a 996 cab - and I have come across a car that is interesting but not sure - it is a 2002 with 60k miles on it that had the engine and clutch replaced by dealer - with the engine being under 2 year unlimited miles warranty - the car is priced at the low end of market for this area - clean carfax - service records for the last 4 years from current owner.

I am a long time 911 owner ('84 carrera) who is buying the cab to be my daily driver for the two years. I live in so cal and my commute is mostly canyon roads and PCH

* one small proviso. The latest remans are likely to have the M97 IMSB upgrade which, while better than the original setup, can not be replaced.
This is not likely to be a problem either ever or at least within the next ten years or so though, so I wouldn't use that as a decision point.
New motor = good.
I bought my 02 C4S that had the motor replaced [grenaded @ 20K and was replaced under warranty]. It was a huge plus factor for me, as was the PSE. So I got an exhaust AND a 20K 'credit' on my odo. Sweet!

When shopping for my 996 I was avoiding pre-facelift cars mainly because of the 3400cc "time bomb" at the back. I ended up buying a 99 for many reasons one being that the enigne had been replaced with a factory rebuild a few years back..A definite plus in my book.
