Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

You can re use the shims, but for the whole $10 they cost might as well do new imo.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Replacing the front end. Bought Zimmerman rotors and Hawk pads, along with new sensors. Was advised that I can re-use the shims (true?) Any "top tips" from the crowd?

POST 2Original post

Ive re-used the front shims before but the rears may be welded to the pad. I change mine often enough that I quit using the squeel tabs altogether. I also zip tie the sensors out of the way. 1. Make sure you remove some fluid if your resevoir is full. 2. If you are bleeding start at passenger rear wheel, then driver rearwheel, then passenger front, then driver front. Keep some brake cleaner handy so you dont ruin your calipers. Brakes are a really easy DIY.

POST 3Original post

I used Zimmermans on the front brakes and installed new shims , but reused the sensors. Very happy with the rotors.

POST 4Original post

Forget what brand of pads I used now apart from that I re-used the shims on the rear. Didn;t have to replace front pads yet. Also used new brake sensors on rear. You will not be able to get the pads and shims out unless you remove the calipers. Thats for certain. Then the shims come with the pads easily and can be removed from the old pads by lifting with a wide wood chisel. Then slide old shims back followed by new pads. The first braking session will seal the old shims to the new pads. They did on mine and no squealing in the last 10,000 miles. I take it that the front will be the same procedure.

POST 5Original post

You can re use the shims, but for the whole $10 they cost might as well do new imo. I hate re using anything if I dont have to, new stuff goes together much better

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Done... And the shims were $25 ea locally. I bought them just in case, but easily reused the existing set. Amazon's price for Hawk pads was $130 with free shipping. The best price I found by far. Bought the rotors and sensors from Vertex.
