I put a LOT of torque on the plug, using a piece of pipe over the allen key, but stopped short of rounding the hex.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Went to change my oil today only to find the dealer must have stripped the oil drain plug! Morons!! I guess I will let my mechanic deal with it, I dont have the desire too. It's a good thing I ordered a new plug when I got my filters.

POST 5Original post

I am not surprised to hear this. When I attempted to drain the oil out of my 3.4, (using a high quality 8mm allen key), I was unable to loosen the plug. I put a LOT of torque on the plug, using a piece of pipe over the allen key, but stopped short of rounding the hex. Whoever tightened this plug the last time certainly over torqued it. Is this a typical situation, I wonder? ...Rickker

POST 6Original post

Drain plug is 37 ftlb. of torque and the filter canister is 19 ftlb. I once had to use a 3 foot breaker bar to remove the filter canister on a 996 - I guess Tommy Torque got to that one too.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
