Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Rather than staggered, I run spacers on my 19" wheels at the front - turns in very nicely now.
Leading evidence: 'Run spacers' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill holes' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Cheaper to have the car lowered and put on spacers, than to buy new rims and tires, just to fill the holes.

Suggestion
I would run the 18 in wheels only when I need to run on a winter tire.

I LOVE the look of my 19s, and they feel great on smooth ribbons of asphalt where cars like this should run 9% of the time, but in retrospect considering my environments and $400 of straightening in my past, I would go with 18s if I had it to do all over again.

Also you run a larger risk in damaging the wheels due to the stiffer and shorter sidewall.

I run more pressure than stock and dodge potholes like I'm geriatric, as do a LOT of 911s with 19s (996 + 997) in NYC (although when I bent a wheel badly it was high up on Angeles Crest in LA, running over a rock from a little mini landslide as I apexed, my point being 17s or 18s would have bent that time too).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have been doing a bit of research and learned a bit about 18 inch vs 19 inch wheels - any ideas of the major benefits/downfalls of going from 18" (which I currently have" to a 19"? Is the ride really going to be that much more bumpy and edgy?
I feel as if I can already sense every bump in the road and the ride is more on the bumpy side as it is...any thoughts please advise!
So major draw backs...
1) Unsprung weight, extra 1" of rim material makes a big difference (think alot of the weight is the barrel near the outside)
2) Cost of tires - Roughly 1200 vs 1700 or 1900 for a set of PS2s
Benefits:
1)bling?
2)slightly reduced body roll
I just sold my 19" Champions (came on the car) for a set of 18" Kinesis. The choice is yours to make.
I no expert here, but wouldn't the weight of the wheels depend on the actual wheels? I mean I'm sure there are 19" wheels that weigh less than 18" wheels and in that case, the unsprung weight would be less. Mine are 19" carerra wheels and I belive the weight is less than the 18" wheels I replaced.
Also, I don't want to speak for everyone, but I can not tell any ride difference. I read posts that said they were "notchy" etc. too and was slightly worried...truth is they feel pretty similar. I also have H&R coilovers, so my ride is pretty firm due to that.
I went with the 19x10 and 19x11.5
But to continue with the same wheel development as 18" rims , you'll have to go with a very extra wide size tires, so you'll be distort the handling, compromise, cornering balance, agility, etc, won't you?
305/ R19 or 315 R19 is too much for a 996 Carrera
Engineers set up the car initially with 205/ R17 front and 255/ R17 rear as stantard equipment, and you could choose 18" as optional. Even GT2, GT3, GT3 RS an TT have 18" rims as maximun.
Don't you think that 19" is an oversize rim?
Here in Spain we cannot go with oversize tires because TV don't allow this.
Don't run staggered wheel diameters unless you're keeping overall rolling diameters the same as stock (by using higher profile fronts) or are tuning a fully adjustable suspension specifically to take advantage of staggered rolling diameters. Recipe for disaster.

you wind up with a slower car. Larger tire/wheel = heavier.
Also you run a larger risk in damaging the wheels due to the stiffer and shorter sidewall.
tires cost more money and there is less selection to be had.
Not a geometry issue but it is a strength issue. Porsche did extensive testing of the 997 with 19 inch wheels on the 996 suspension,--and tore them to pieces. Although they were trying to economize and keep the suspension the same from 996 to 997, they had to redesign the 997 suspension extensively to handle the added loading from the 19 inch wheels/tires.
Some 997 owners like the 18 inch rims over the 19s, but I can tell you that with PASM the 19s are terrific,--handling is phenomenal! I would run the 18 in wheels only when I need to run on a winter tire. They are the only wheels that will take cable chains for tough winter driving. For the track I would stick to the 19s on my 997.

Also, and completely of no value to answering this thread, the 997 comes standard with 18" rims. The 997S comes with the 19". And if you want to order the the new LSD on a a 997, you must also pick 19" rims. LSD is not available with the 18" rims FWR.
