Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not sure if this is the dreaded coolant tank issue. I have been noticing coolant on my garage floor on and off around the driver's side exhaust area. When I check the coolant level, the coolant is between the min/max level. Is my tank shot? If yes, why doesn't the coolant level change? Thanks. 99 C2 Cab

POST 2Original post

It's shot. If you pay a dealer to fix it, expect about $600. The level might not change much because you might not have lost much (yet)? Good luck.

POST 3Original post

be thankful its the coolant tank and its leaking outside vs. leaking INTO your engine... coolant tank is common problem on 99. I replaced mine the same.

POST 4Original post

Yup it's the coolant tank. I had mine replaced last year for $500 at the dealer and, just this week, I started noticing that all too familiar burnt coolant smell again.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the responses. Meanwhile I did a search on this list and found a DIY. I'm going to order the tank and replace it before it gets worse.

POST 6Original post

Sounds like the coolant tank. It's in the right area.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought the tank, cap and coolant and had my mechanic change the tank. He did it in 1 hour. There was a very small (less than 1/4 inch) crack at the bottom of the tank. I still cant figure out why it cracked since the tank looks pretty durable. Overall, it was about half of what the dealer wanted. Since I didn't order the coolant, I had to pick it up from the local dealer... $50 gulp.
