Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In addition to the leather dash for early model 911s, I also have these available for the 996. This is black leather with black stitching. Its available in any color Porsche leather with matching or contrast color stitching. The cover will fit all the models with the separate IP including the Boxster. The price is $199 for just the cover. I'll install it for $50.00

POST 2Original post

that is very cool... I cannot jump on it now..but I am going to bookmark your site for future use!

POST 3Original post

Rob - very nice looking piece. Are you beginning to branch out into the 996 territory, of have you been doing some 996 stuff previously?

POST 4Original post

How hard is it to take the dash out of these cars? I know in my own car (1985 Mercedes 380SE...soon to be 380SE 5.66 based off a custom 560 engine...Porsche is my parents', and I'm trying to price out what it would cost to fix up the interior in a car a friend is looking at) the dash takes about 14 hours of labor to get out.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I managed to pick up some 996 interior parts along the way. I have seats, door panels, rear side panels, IP and dash and figured I put them to good use since I've had requests from 996 owners. As an aside, I found the materials and construction of the interior panels on the new models (1997+) is very similar to the materials and process I use to restore and repair the panels on the old models. The substrate on the old models is steel with latex or polyurethane foam covered in vinyl then leather. The new models have a plastic substrate with closed cell, crosslnked polyethylene blend of foam then either leather or vinyl on top of that. This helps with durability issues since it has better resistance to temperature changes and UV. I use PVC to replace the substrate when necessary and the same type of foam under my leather covers. Of course I prefer the cut and sewn look of leather rather than vacuum formed vinyl.

POST 6Original post

Rob - thanks for the reply. Agreed on the "prefer the cut and sewn look of leather rather than vacuum formed vinyl" comment. Leather is MUCH nicer looking.

POST 7Original post

Beautiful products - how much work have you done for Jay Leno?

POST 8Original post

I just finished mine up from Rob for my 996 (Dash Pod) and it looks good, I could have used some instruction on what the best product is best used for sticking the leather to the dash pod itself. I just used 3M spray glue and Goof Off to remove excess glue when finished. Would recommend. Thanks Rob.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. Remon my trimmer, did two cars for Leno, the Tank car and the Olds Toronado. There's been some rumblings of more work coming up for Leno. If it comes about, I'm hoping I can be included or at least tag along.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Great job! 3M spray should work fine.

POST 11Original post

I have been thinking about this and was looking at used ones on EBay. Never pulled the trigger because I was not sure how the leather would look next to the vinyl on the rest of the dash. Have any photos of the installed product?

POST 12Original post

I would be interested in visors and the rear center console cover. Do you carry any of these? If not could we send you these pieces to cover them? I like the look of the leather with stitched seams is alot better looking than the vinyl. Thanks, Kris

POST 13Original post

Kris - good idea: Leather visors would be a nice upgrade... adn the center console would look alot better wrapped in a dearly departed cow, too. Bill

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Steve, Sorry I don't. I just finsihed this first one the other day Its going to a dealer in South Carolina. I always ask for photos when I send my stuff out, but I don't always get them. I don't have patterns for them but yes, f you send them I can make patterns and do them in leather.

POST 15Original post

Rob, approximately what would the cost be to cover the rear/center console cover? Thanks!

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

BTW I just finished making this a few minutes ago.

POST 17Original post

Rob - I think you have to the potential for a lot of business here on the 996 Forum if 1) your quality is high (like the Leather Cover for Instrument Panel shown in your first post) and 2) your prices are competitive or lower than the alternative sources. Here are a couple of items that I think would be some of the more popular items for 996'ers to have in leather. I am sure that some of the other members may want to add a few items to this list. o - Cover for Instrument Panel o - Airbag cover o - Rear center console o - Upper center console (horse shoe)

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The lid cover is $79.00 on my website and $84 on eBay. Entering "Rennlist" on my web site shopping cart page in the "Discount password or coupon box" gets you a 5% discount.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The first one I do will be a lot less than the regular price if you supplied a console I could make a pattern from. Is there a separate "rear" console? I thought there was a center and front console. I can't find a part number listing for a rear console.

POST 23Original post

Rob - You are right, the correct part is the center console, but sometimes there is confusion with this term referring to the dash, so it has occasionally been called the rear center console. How long would it take to cover the center console cover? I would be interested in the cover without the emblem. I am also in Michigan (Lake Orion). Thanks!

POST 24Original post

Great work. How long is the turnaround time for installing the liner?

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Once I have the lid, it takes less than an hour. You can send it or bring it by. Without the emblem its $59.00.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! If you mean the lid cover. Actual shop time is less than an hour. If its shipped to me, I can usually turn it around in 3 business days.

POST 27Original post

Just looked at your site... great. If there is one thind I could change with my cars it would be to have the full leather interior. Perhaps you can help me with that! Just so I understand... I mail you my instrument surround and center console storage cover and you cover them with leather and send them back? Or do you send them and I send back cores? I am all over this either way... but my cars is a daily driver so it's tough to be without parts.

POST 28Original post

Yes, you could drum up more business if you had the option of having a core charge, to minmize downtime...

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes. You can send them to me and I'll install them both for $70.00 Installation of the leather covers is not hard. They are tailored to fit so all you need to due is remove the old vinyl, fit the cover, line it up & get the wrinkles out, trim off the excess and glue it to the underside. These items as cores are relatively expensive compared to the cost of the covers and installation. I checked a couple of wrecking yards and they want over $350 for the cluster piece and $100 for the console lid in vinyl. That would bring the installed cost for both to over $700.00 I do have one 996 cluster piece I could use as a core. But at a core charge of $350, I'll leave it up to you.

POST 31Original post

Alcantara? Curious about doing a number of panels in my car in it. How are costs compared to leather?

POST 32Original post

I like the look of your center storage cover but not in Black. Are you going to add additional covers like on your dash cover?

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Alcantara runs about 30% more than leather in material cost. But most leather hide leave areas some that can't be used due to blemishes and holes. Since all of the Alcantara can be used, it brings the cost a bit closer.

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes. I have only a few colors in stock but will be getting more. Which color are you looking for?

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Today I found a source for cores at $150! That brings the cost of the cluster piece down to $399 exchange.

POST 36Original post

I would like to send you the center console lid and the two visors. My interior is black leather with black stitching. I would want the center console lid without the Porsche crest. Do you have a rough estimate for the cost and how long it would take to complete? Thanks, Kris

POST 38 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The console lid I can turn around within a couple days of getting it. The sunvisors will take longer, perhaps a week to 10 days. The cost would be $80.00 for the lid cover installed, no emblem. The sunvisors would be $200.

POST 39 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have some savanna beige leather on the way. It'll be here the middle of next week.

POST 40 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The above price is wrong. The installed cost with core exchange is $270. I can send you a leather covered instrument panel cover with custom color stitching for $420.00 including insured domestic priority mail shipping. When I receive your cover back, I'll refund $150. Your net cost is $270. That's less a vinyl one and less than half the cost of a leather one from Porsche.

POST 41Original post

I was wondering about the "original" (incorrect) price. The revised price of $270, after the core swap, is a very good price!

POST 42Original post

Hi Rob, I looked on your website for the 996 console core swap option, but it isn't there. I'd like to do this for my 2002 Targa. tmc

POST 43Original post

do the installers in your avatar come to ny for installation? if so, i'd like to redo my entire interior. your quality looks great and price reasonable. as someone else said here, looks like you could do some good business here.

POST 44 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was able to find the instrument cluster cores, but not the console lid cover cores. I have a source I'll check with on Monday and post my findings.

POST 45Original post

Would the $200 be for both visors or each? I have always hated the vinyl look of those visors. If you can do the console and visors for $280, I will probably send them to you next week. Let me know. Thanks, Kris

POST 47Original post

Do you have the center storage in Savannah yet?? Site still shows only black. Thanks oh ps can you ship via US Mail since I am in the military and have an APO, AE address?

POST 48Original post

Oh and how hard is it to put these items on your car..ie what would I need to get? I am looking at the 996 dash part and the center storage. Thanks

POST 49Original post

Hey Gulf, can you post pictures of your IP installed in the car?

POST 50 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes. Savanna Beige and Boxster Red leather came in yesterday. I just updated the items on the website. You can now select plain or no crest and the colors. Select the USPS Priority mail for APO, AE shipping. Don't forget to enter "Rennlist" (no quotes) in the "Discount password or coupon" box on the shopping cart page to get the 5% discount. The oddments tray lid is easy to install. The instrument cover is a bit harder but not that bad. I'll post a link to instructions on my web site sometime today.

POST 51Original post

I just ordered a console cover (w/o the crest). I'll post pics.
