Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Hmmm looks interesting but I am concerned about the cost to do this work, in regards to having the body cut open and then resealed (welded).
Leading evidence: 'Reseal (welded)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Reseal (welded)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I've been doing a lot of research into aftermarket exhausts lately and have decided that buying a real one costs too much for my cheap @$$ so I'm going to have a local shop mod my preexisting one. However, I've only seen people doing the MKI or MKII. What about an MKIII in which the internals are cut up and removed. I saw a member do this and I was wondering if anyone else had done the same.
Edit: the blue parts are the pieces that are removed.
Hmmm looks interesting but I am concerned about the cost to do this work, in regards to having the body cut open and then resealed (welded). Maybe we can get FisterD to give his advice and possible pricing to do this. Then what is the benefit and how loud is loud and too loud?
Those are 997 mufflers. I saw the same post on the 997 Forum. The original poster didn't think the mod added much sound volume.
I noticed on another thread that you said you had the "accordion" part on your mufflers on your '03 Cab. You stated that you thought they might be 997 mufflers. The 996 mufflers for '02 - '04 (Mk II) came with the "accordion" part. THe '99 - '01 mufflers (MK I) had a straight pipe coming from the cats. The pic below shoes the MK I muffler on the left (which has already received the MK II version of the PSE mod) and the MK II muffler on the right (no mod).
Oh ok, that makes sense. I was just a little confused because my only reference was the fabspeed muffler explanation video where they have both 996 and 997 mufflers.
I have not cut into them.
However, I'm 99.9999% certain that you have 996 MK II mufflers on your car (like the muffler on the right in post #3 above). Have a muffler shop do the MK II PSE mod. It will improve the sound depth and make them louder. You can probably get this done for between $60 - $200, depending if you have the muffler shop remove/re-install the mufflers. For less than $200, you can't beat the "improved" sound.
I wanted to eliminate the perforated/crimped part of the inlet pipe inside.
It would be an easy job but my car is plenty loud as it is with the MkI mod. Not sure if the perforations and the fact that the end of the pipe is crimped shut (forcing exhaust throught the perforations) are robbing power or not, but my guess, it is hurting top end a little.
Carnewal sells a modified stock exhaust called the rsr exhaust. It is modified by Robin Sun and he cuts the exhaust open and cleans everything out. It is pretty easy if you have a plasma cutter and TIG Welder. He claims that it was easier than doing the mkII. I thought it was pretty smart and ingenous but the MKII sounded so much better.
