Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It was a garage queen in every since of the word, very low miles, stored in a climate controlled garage, spotlessly clean, In fact it clean enough to eat....
Leading evidence: 'Run across this back in 2001' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'better long range solution' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean enough' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

I set traps in the garage baited with crunchy peanut butter.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I advocate starting a car a couple of times a week for several reasons. I work on motorcycles for a living and have since the early '70s full time. Many mechanical issues that develop are as a result of being stored. Damage comes from many sources including loss of lubrication, ozone, sunlight, heat and rodents.
Recently the dealer here received a 996 Turbo that was towed in because in spite of having a good battery, the car would not crank. It was a garage queen in every since of the word, very low miles, stored in a climate controlled garage, spotlessly clean, In fact it clean enough to eat....
The motor and trans were dropped. Rodents had eaten clear thru one of the main harnesses that plug into the chassis. That's not all, they have also gnawed thru some of the wiring in the car. They have nested in different areas on and around the motor. This will be a very expensive repair. Starting your car often will discourage it from becoming eaten.
Bummer. However I am not sure that starting the car on a regular basis with solve the problem. We have friends that drive their BMW on a regular basis, several times a week, and the rodents still chewed through the wiring harness.
I was lucky with my car. When I had the intermix in Sept. of '08 I parked the car until April '09. When I dropped the car I found where something had been nesting on top of the engine, but no chewing through of anything.
Regular starts do not necessarily guarantee no rodents. My Boxster was driven at least 2-3 time per week when I ran across this back in 2001. Fortunately, they hadn't eaten through anything.
I set traps in the garage baited with crunchy peanut butter. Generally catch 2 or 3 of them when the weather gets cool in the fall. Then things are quiet until the spring. I recognize that a cat is probably a better long range solution, but the wife is allergic to cats.
Oh, wait, so that's a reason to NOT buy a cat? Hmmmmmmm
