My dealer thought that Warranty Direct might have their eye on them because they just paid out to replace an engine.

That is why I had to jack it up 10" so when I ran the ducts under the car there would be enough ground clearence.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just got GT3 seats, harnesses and a roll bar installed. I also have a Warranty Direct extended warranty. Has anyone had a 3rd party warranty company deny a claim based on track use when the adjuster sees the safety gear in a car? I'm wondering what I should do in the future if I have a large claim. I guess I could remove the seats and harnesses, but that would be a bit of PITA, and the bar would still give it away.
I just had my transmission replaced by my aftermarket warranty with the GT3 seats and Teq bar in the car... I removed all the other stuff before I took the car in....
Alot of what gets covered and what doesn'lt is based on your Indy's reputation with the adjuster or warranty company....... IMHO...
So basically you just took out the easy to remove obvious stuff like harnesses, FE mount, camera, right? Do you know if an adjuster actually eyeballed the car before authorizing the payment?
I wonder if warranty companies scrutinize shops more carefully after paying a big claim. My dealer thought that Warranty Direct might have their eye on them because they just paid out to replace an engine.
I have a friend who will remain nameless that had difficulty at first with a claim for those reasons, but then they made good on it. If porsche makes those parts, then I don't think it should be a problem.
I was denied an engine myself because of the way my tires were worn. Eventually I got my engine.
A couple of weeks ago, I went to the NASA day at Willow Springs on Saturday, then I spent a Sunday afternoon removing the rollbar before I went for my 90,000 mile service, thinking I was pretty clever...
I went to the dealer on the Tuesday with my best innocent smile, and as I did the paperwork one of the junior technicians walked in, saw me and said "Dude, saw you at the track, wasn't it awesome!"
The service managers cracked up, and still spotted me a new water pump and fuel sensor under the CPO warranty. I guess the moral is, if you have a good relationship with the shop then you should be OK.
What do you guys think about headers and intake/plenum, etc? I would think that those do not affect anything internal and should not be direct causes of such.
Simple. You just tell them you are poser and proud of it. Further, that this is about as close as you are going to get to being able to feel like you are on the track financially. The bucket seats are seats that do NOT denote racing, etc.. Further, the roll bar is just for safety. It's when you have harnesses hanging and a camera mount that start to give the impression of tracking.
That is why I had to jack it up 10" so when I ran the ducts under the car there would be enough ground clearence. That also gave me enough clearence to run the exhaust pipe from the headers up to the front wheels to connect to the 'Vette side pipes. Don't you just love the 13" wheels?
Here are the "before" and "after" shots!
Dell,
You are spot on....... My Indy said I was a "poser" and that I jjust wanted to look cool at POC events... did I care?... no really as it got me a new transmission that broke not because of the track....
Basically NNH said what I deleted from my response... if you have a good relationship with your tech or Indy.. you should be fine...
Smakcboy..... yes the GE rep came out (after 3 weeks) to visulaly inspoect the car and tried to dirve it and could not get the car into any gear but 1st and reverse... he approved the claim..
My point is... it's all Porsche OEM stuff... Teq bar and seats... what can they realy say short of having a video of you at the track?
When I go to autoX I notice all the Subaru guys tape over their plates. Apparently Subaru of America has sent spies
to autoX or track events to photo cars and deny warranty claims.
I can speak from FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE that is 100% true! My good friend from grad school was a regional rep fro Subaru NA and would frequently take down VIN's and plate numbers of "modded" WRX's (STi and non STi) a a preventative measure to come armed with the battles that WILL ensue when these rice rocket punks bring in their rice burners for warranty work.
can you say WARRANTY DENIED!!!!!
Absolutely no problems on my CPO Carrera. I not only have the Euro GT3 seats, rollbar and 6-point harness, I also have a ROW M030 suspension with GT3 control arms and sport brake pads. My dealer does my alignment and sponsers the DE eventsI drive. I have still never had a problem with warranty.
This conversation has come up many times and each time I sit here quietly perplexed and annoyed.
Explain this to me - we all drive race cars. What's the value of a warranty if you cannot use the car for the purpose that it was built? Is a warranty company saying that the cars are too fragile to use for their designed purpose?
I really wish I could get the logic on this one. I don't see the point in being afraid to use your car - screw the warranty company. If you can't afford to maintain it, then go and buy a Corvette.
On the lines of Wellard's comments, it does boggle my mind that Porsche or Subaru in the case of the WRX, touts their 'performance' cars and makes sales because of the image that they create then would try to deny a warranty claim because the car was actually being used in the way in which it was a) designed and b) advertised/marketed.
Hmmmmmm... thanks for the heads up Dell..... Since the car is trailered to the track I think I'll be removing the plate just to be safe...
I'm at the track with a non-porsche club but still will remove just to be safe.....
Thanks
