On a side note, it is amazing how much we love our Porsches...I feel that she is hurting, I wonder how long would it take to change the engine?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It is really beyond words, however, I took my 03 996 for a short drive and I heard some funny noises. I stopped immedietly, put the car back in the garage and looked under the engine and it was leaking oil like sieve.
I am out of words and the car has only 15000 miles! Any thoughts?
That sucks. First my car's incident at the track, then you have this experience with yours.
Hopefully it is just a seal/gasket failure, but I too fear the worst, such as an engine failure. This is not turning out to be a good week for us 996 guys. The rest of you please drive carefully for the next few days. Surely there is a better way for us to raise the resale value of our 996s other than rapidly reducing their numbers.
03? are you in warranty? If so, then no problem, welcome to the new engine club that is supposedly very exclusive (although I highly doubt it). If not in warranty could be around 10K-12K installed.
I would beat the warranty drum like the Energizer bunny on meth. There is no reason you should have an engine failure at that mileage. If they (the dealer and PCNA) don't want to play ball, go see a good consumer affairs lawyer.
Where is the oil coming from?
It could be the intermediate shaft bolt. That bolt broke on my 2003 C-2 just six-months before the warranty expired and mine had 23,000 miles. I heard a metallic-like noise similiar to a loose nut bouncing inside the engine. When I pulled over and turned off the engine, half of my oil leaked out between the tranny and engine.
Porsche gave me a remanufactured engine which feels stronger than the original. It also has all of the new, updated parts and most of the components had a built date in 2005/06.
That sounds exactly similar to what happened. I only drove it for 50 yards before it went out. A flat bed is coming to take it tomorrow and I am so, so sad. I shall keep you posted. Thanks for your help. I am hoping that the dealer would help, if not... I am speechless.

If they have an engine, less than a day. If they don't, I think the dealers can normally get a replacement, assuming there is one in the U.S., in about 2 days. Might consider having them do the clutch while she's apart.
My engine was just replaced, luckily my aftermarket warranty co. covered it.
$12+K Plus $800 or so for clutch, (total time I was without was 8 weeks)
Best of luck.. By the way my motor never leaked any oil, just heard slapping noise.
I, too, was pretty bummed out and thought about selling the car. Since the replacement, I put 7,000 miles on it (2,000 of that was break-in miles), and while another engine failure is in the back of my mind, I enjoy the car and it appears to have more power.
My dealer had to order the engine which took two days. Basically, my car was in on a Wednesday, they had my engine out by Friday and began to install the engine by late Friday. I picked it up on Tuesday.
My loaner was an unexciting Benz C230. The cost of this replacement would have been around $13,000.
If yours is out of warranty, be nice and kindly ask that it be covered under "goodwill."
Nothing if it's under warranty.
The date your warranty runs out (or ran out)........what is it?
If it's definately
out
of warranty......and you have a trusted Porsche shop (other than dlr)...that's where I'd 1st take it for a quick assessment.
