I used to use tire rack all the time, but have since found that my local Discount Tire outlet will meet or beat the tire rack price, and I don't have to mess with the ship to a local tire dealer thing that you do with Tire Rack.

i am ready to get a new set of tires. i am going to go with the mich. pilot sport rib in 18s. i have been pricing on tire rack. where do you guys go for yours?

I've had good experience with Discount Tire, they seem well trained, always torque the lug bolts to spec, etc.

First replacment set I bought from tire rack. Had them mounted locally. Guy there said they will match any price from anyone. Bought the next set from them, and they did match TireRacks price, with balancing thrown in for free. Talk to your local guys.

It's just the peace of mind and insurance card of being able to come back to my own dealer and complain if there's a wheel scratch, etc. which I don't mind paying that extra amount for.
just got a new set of pilot sports put on yesterday at discount tire. They matched the tire rack tire price but i still had to pay sales tax (50 bucks more than if i ordered them myself and had them sent to tire rack)
in the future i think i will just have the tires sent to tire rack myself and save the sales tax!
i get mine from direct tire in boston. my C4 is a year-round driver and they do free changeover and balancing from my summer to winter tires (and vice versa) which is worth a couple of hundred bucks a year. they have a few locations around boston (north, west, and south of the city). their prices are usually a little higher than elsewhere, but i always talk them down about $50/tire by mentioning that i can get them cheaper from tire rack. they also provide a free loaner car for the day.
