Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dead battery again. On the 2002 996s does anyone know how I can access either of the two lids? I heard on the prior 996 models that there is a cable hidden under the fender liner of the pass. side front wheel well. Can anyone confirm if this is still the case? I know about the battery terminals but for some reason I can't get that to work after trying everything... Thanks

If you remove the fuse panel cover (near the clutch pedal) there's instructions on how to do it.

Thanks for your reply Poursha, I tried that already but to no avail =( I'll try it again tonight, turning the key and then trying to use the unlock buttons.

POST 5Original post

You can also stick a 12 volt chager into your lighter to give enough juice to pop the lid. Worked for me.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all of your replies. I messed around for this for a couple of days. Tonight I tried plugging into the cig lighter socket and it worked like a charm. Now I need a new battery, thanks again!
