I actually changed the pumpkins on my car to clears before I even took possession of it!

He stupidly told me so I gave him a check the next day!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all,
I thought for my first post I’d introduce the car I recently purchased, rather than me, (I'm boring).
’99 996 Cab Trip S. 38k Miles, $23K Silver over black. Full Leather etc.
History
One previous owner. Front damage in 2008, repaired, $6,800. I have the report, looks like he, (could be a ‘she’ seeing as it is a Trip Cab!), rear-ended someone, good thing the engine is in the back! Other than that I have no real history, other than Carfax, no warranty etc. It’s a gamble but one I’m willing to take, after all, it was only $23k with low miles and I wanted a car to dawdle about in for the summer.
Current
I’ve had it a month and done a little over 800 Miles. I find it surprisingly sluggish unless you really go for it in Trip. The transmission makes it sound like a hairdryer with the roof up, perhaps that is a problem with the tranny and I don’t realize!
Oil pressure worried me at the start because I’ve never had a car with one of those gauges. Cold it’s at 4.9, (I’m a get in and drive slowly kind of guy to warm it up), and when warm is around 4 on the highway, 3.5 at lower RPM and idles around 2.
Then main roof motor sounds like it’s about die, so thanks guys for the threads regarding making it manual. I’m a little wary as I’m not technically gifted, but it sounds easy enough.
Well, that’s it. Hello to all and I hope you don’t mind me coming on here with my ramblings. I know many of you are die-hard Porsche guys and I hope my little ‘experiment’ doesn’t offend.
BTW, loving it so far!
Current other cars are:-
’96 M3
’71 Jaguar XK-E V12 (or E-Type as we call them back in Blighty)
’01 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Previous Car of Note.
BMW Z8 – loads of power, great looking, handled like a boat, things fell off it or broke all the time.
1st off welcome - post pics when you get a minute...
The oil pressure numbers sound good to me... I tend to have more range in mine, but it is normal -
this forum will help overcome the "technically gifted" aspects of ownership... stick around and join in the conversations when you feel like it -
Enjoy!
Thanks guys.
Hmmm, now to work out the pic thing. I see a little photo icon...
Photobucket not working...not uploading files.
However, here's the Jag, (as a test).
Redridge,
I watched the episode of Top Gear with the R8 and the 911 the other day, (again). Very funny.
BTW, I'm not sure if you have seen the episode, (shoot me if you are an avid watcher), but that bit was 'staged'. Hammond was catching up to Clarkson and messing about.
I keep getting this message on Photobucket. Any ideas?
"Upload failed for 911.jpg with error: A network error caused your upload to fail. Please try your upload again."
Welcome aboard JB... Hey - easy with that "she" and "trip cab" thing!!!
Yes, you're going to love it... it was warm here at 4:30 in the morning (about 68 degrees) so I made my 25 mile commute with the top down... driving in the dark with the top down really is a pleasant experience...
Better be quick about the pics... you've been warned...
Rudy
Regarding the pics...I'm a member of a couple of other forums, not car related. I take it you get some 'impostors' on here?
Seriously, can't get Photobucket to work.
I'm not a photog but a couple of years ago I got a call from a friend of a friend who wanted to use the car for a model shoot.
I was very hungover and didn't enjoy it at all. Plus, the girls were all about 15-16!
Welcome to the informative forum. Nice looking cab and jag(and model). You just can't go wrong for the price you paid, and be driving a 911. Have a blast.
JB,
Welcome to the friendliest 996 forum on the web. +1 on the nice looking car. I'm at work so not every photo set pops. I'm hoping you have pix posted with the models.
Jeez, give the guy a break! He's here one day and you guys want to change his car and spend his money. He is already addicted by now. He'll figure it out.
EVERYBODY here had them at one time or another. That was the way they came to the USA from the factory. Several folks have attempted to insist that they would keep their orange markers because that made the car more valuable as an original. However, since as you have already stated you are changing the wheels, then you have soiled that path forever. LOL!
Resistance is futile. You
will
be assimilated.
Well, after the pumpkins you have to do the amberectomy - Ed (Ivangene) is the resident expert on that around here... and the list goes on... (my list is in my signature...) And if you want the official list, Tim can recite that for you (luckily you're off the bad list with the quick posting of the pics...)
Anyway, you're going to love it here... and yes, when you reach "Addict" level, you really are...
Rudy
Rudy,
I've just been reading the warranty thread. I'm selling
I just hope I can get home before she blows up!
Amebrectomy..ha ha.
Already loving it here, everyone seems so helpful. I just hope my bank balance can take it.
[QUOTE=JohnnyBuckhead;6753883]Hello all,

Hi Johnny,
I have a 2001 Tip as well. I assume you have figured out it starts in 2nd gear. If not, drop it into first: it may seem a little snappier off the line...
Hi Sheatley,
Yep. I was leaving it in auto and just going to work and back. Then I went away on a trip so I hadn't, (until last night), taken it on a 'drive'. I'd used the Tip before but not much.
Anyway, I was flying around the back roads last night and basically fell in love. I find if I shift around 5,000 it has plenty of poke and I don't bring too much attention to myself.
This morning was beautiful so I went out early, took all back roads to work, (no freeway), and had a BLAST! Takes me longer that way but I was grinning from ear to ear by the time I got to the office.
I take back my sluggish comment. It wasn't the car, it was me driving like a granny. My (relatively) heavily modded M3 is more ballistic and my old Z8 was more in your face, but this P-Car, (see I'm learning), is so much more involved.
Anyone else take a different route to work because of the car? I'm guessing you all do!
this is classic - when I get to work I have a huge grin, it still goes away after a while, but comes back at the end of the day. I often think... some of these people didn "grin" once today.... and feel sorry for them
my commute is freeway - there are really no realistic alternatives, the differance is I can get on it getting on, and come off hard and fast... while just rolling down the road, I drive spot on the speed limit. maybe a "burst" or two just to push the pedal for a few seconds
+ like ALOT !!!!
this makes the public road driving a lot less damgerous too. I seem to "get it out" then drive much slower on the roads
Almost every day, especially driving home after work. I have one stretch of road with several nice curves and elevation changes. That's a rarity in northern Indiana, so I enjoy every minute of it!
Sorry to bump my own thread back up but...
Talking of aberectomies etc, I notice that the early 996's don't have any decal on the back of the car. I really like the
Carrera
emblem on the back. Is is acceptable to add it or is that cheesy/cheating?
are u guys going to start another "decal position" debate?
OP, check out smart top, that's the must-have for cab owners.
life is too short to not to drive porsche, weather is too nice to not to lower the top. i am taking off now, just hlding the key making my face grinning......
Thanks! I bought it from a mate who was moving back to England.
He asked me to sell it for him, so playing along, I asked him what was the absolute lowest amount he would take for it. He stupidly told me so I gave him a check the next day!
He still hasn't forgiven me.
As for the exhaust it is a custom fab and has just two pipes. Still looks neat though.
It might not have fallen off. It could have been ordered from the factory with it deleted. If you read some of the posts, you'll see there is much debate on whether the car looks better with it on or off, and if on, where exactly it should be placed, and then, which color (silver, black, or painted) to even go for. Oh brother, I'm exhausted just thinking about it.
