Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Car had to be jumped despite the new battery (which the manager said they'd replace), but more troubling was the little spot of oil directly below the union of transmission and motor.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looking at a local car at what I understand to be a reputable independent dealer/shop. 2002 C2, 6-spd, 75k miles.
Dealer says they replaced the RMS, battery, some fuses (radio) and did an alignment. Tires are newish, but fronts and rears don't match.
Car had to be jumped despite the new battery (which the manager said they'd replace), but more troubling was the little spot of oil directly below the union of transmission and motor. About the size of a coffee cup.
Guy is firm at $26,500. Does this seem fair, or should I keep looking? Car is clean and looks good from what I can see other than the issues I've mentioned. I've not decided whether to have a PPI done.
Mismatched tires, signs of an oil leak, needs to be jumped even with new battery, firm on the price.....I think you know the answer. Thank him for his time and go onto the next car. There are too many deals to be had to mess with what you described.
If you take this car without a PPI, I would like to speak with you regarding a fantastic investment opportunity in some prime vacation real estate just south of Florida.
i think he was saying that he hasnt decided if he is serious enough about this guy to spend the money on a ppi...at least i really hope thats what he was saying
personally i would walk away from this car/dealer quite quickly
Agree with others. Save your PPI money for a car you can't find any reason to reject. I can find many reasons to reject this car. Who or what performed RMS and other work? When? Receipts? Warranty?
Dead battery.
Mismatched tires.
"firm" price is just noise. Everything car salesman says to you is intended to get you to pay as much for car as possible and buy car as soon as possible.
Walk away. There's always another car. And if you dont want Florida property I can let you in on ground floor of a sure fire investment vehicle me and Mad Dog Madoff working on it before his forced vacation.
Sincerely,
Macster.
I'm with the rest, Mismatched tires - bad sign... dead battery + blown fuses, electric issues?
RMS would not scare me away if dealer had fixed or compensated for that but add them all up, walk.
So many nice cars out there to be had.
