Went straight to parts store and replaced battery but much to my dismay, the warning still came on after a few minutes.

If you're seeing 12's with a new battery, I would suspect the alternator.

Starting with lights, hi-beams, air conditioning at full blast, door open trunk and hood open (to turn lights on) and all seemed to be running perfect.

No warning lights.....until it hit running temperature and then the cursed light turned on again, warning me about the Battery/Generator issue.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Greetings:
I have a 996 2002 C2 Cab. 20,000 miles.
Today, she started very slowly, then 10 mins later after refueling, she wouldn't fire up at all. A jump start got me going though in short order.
Went straight to parts store and replaced battery but much to my dismay, the warning still came on after a few minutes. I drove the car home and proceeded to check these boards for answers. I double checked the tightness of the battery terminal cables and all is secure and tight. There is no corrosion whatsoever.
The car did start up and I proceeded to put increasing loads on the voltage system. Starting with lights, hi-beams, air conditioning at full blast, door open trunk and hood open (to turn lights on) and all seemed to be running perfect. No warning lights.....until it hit running temperature and then the cursed light turned on again, warning me about the Battery/Generator issue.
So - I would have assumed if the Alternator/Generator was bad, it would be bad under heavy load. But it seemed to be charging over 12 volts until it got to normal operating temperature. It also held the loads of the accessories/lights very well (just under 12 volts).
Is there something going on more, or do I simply need a new alternator?
Lastly - I read some posts about $400-500 alternators here but whats wrong with buying a new one for $180 on eBay? Any suggestions on a new alternator supplier?
Thanks in advance!
My volt meter usually sits near the 14 or just slightly under it in normal use. If you're seeing 12's with a new battery, I would suspect the alternator.

Do you see 14v even with a full load applied?
I just went thru the same thing with my GT3. Your best bet is to remove it and have it rebuilt locally for about $150.
Re those eBay alternators, I tried that too. The sellers definition of "new" wasn't the same as Webster's. Also, you need to know what to buy, fixed pulley vs clutch, 120 Amp vs 150 Amp, etc.
